5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly easy colour calibration 27 Oct 2007
I have wondered for some time if when I edit my digital photographs I am actually seeing a true image or whether my monitor has been showing me an image which is too dark, too blue, too pale etc. I purchased Huey and within a very few minutes I had my monitor settings adjusted to perfection, and what's more, Huey keeps it that way.

I thought this was going to be a difficult process, but on the contrary, you just take Huey out of the box, put it in a USB socket, load the software from the disk and follow the on-screen instructions. No more messing about with the monitor menu, or display settings, Huey measures the ambient light in the room, and then takes command of your monitor and eliminates colour cast, contract or light errors all by itself.

Having got it sorted out once and for all, Huey even continues to keep it correct, by measuring the ambient light in the room the computer is in and adjusting the monitor minute by minute.

Anyone who is serious about digital photography or video needs to make sure that their monitor is adjusted correctly. Huey does it for you. You should note however that Huey does not affect printing, just what you see on the screen. A great product and highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Screen calibration the safe and easy way 14 Jun 2007
Verified Purchase
The Huey makes screen calibration a simple process with effective results. Colour management is an important subject for digtial imagers yet one easily made complicated. If you want a reliable one stop solution, to get your monitor's colours looking realistic, then the Huey could be for you. The device also monitors, at chosen intervals, the changing light levels within a room and adjusts your screen appropriately -- which is useful when processing and manipulating images. The Huey takes about three minutes to use after which it is always interesting to to compare before and after results!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pantone Huey Review 3 Mar 2010
I purchased the Pantone Huey because on paper it appeared to be the most straight forward Monitor Calibration device available. I wanted something that would do a good job of Calibrating my Monitor without me needing a PhD in colour management. This is the original (cheaper and older) version of the "Pantone Huey Pro".
I wasn't dissappointed. It is incrdibly simple to use. Load the software, plug it in and you are guided through the process step by step. To have a fully functioning calibrated monitor takes no more than 5 minutes. You attach the sensor to your screen by way of tiny suction cups and the software takes over and flashes through various intensities of Red, Green, Blue, Black and White. The effect once calibrated isn't as dramatic as the pictures on the packaging would suggest but it is significant. You can view a "before" and "after" effect at the end of the process and see just how "bad" your screen was before.
Once calibrated the sensor continues to sample the ambient light and makes small adjustments to your monitor. This can be slightly annoying as the monitor dims momentarily while the adjustment is made. This happens about every 3 or 4 minutes and can be quite off putting. I am thinking about unplugging the device once the screen has reached operating temperature to try and overcome this issue.
Reading the literature about monitor calibration devices a major criticism of this particular version seems to be the fact that you can only use it on one monitor at a time. Purists seem to want the facility of multiple calibrated monitors but if like me you only run one monitor and are after an acceptable standardisation so that your prints and webpages look good then this is for you. Price wise it is very very good value and requires no expertise to set up and use. If however you are a professional or a purist then this device probably isn't for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks good so far 9 Aug 2009

I have had this for a week or two but have still to perform the acid test - ie print a picture and then compare.

But I can comment on a couple of things:

Installation is a piece of cake and fun sticking the thing on your screen. Very neat idea.

One thing I have noticed that leads me to believe that it is doing the correct adjustments is the following observation. I was sitting in my office one evening with the fluorescent lights on and I realised that the wallpaper had turned green!!!!

It then hit me what had happened. Normally with fluorescent lights your eye/brain compensates and you are never aware how green fluorescent light is. But my eyes were adjusted for normal daylight, ie my Huey adjusted screen and so when I look at the walls they are green - at least until my eyes readjust. Interesting huh?

I will post more observations because this is an incredibly cheap device if it can really match prints to the screen.

4.0 out of 5 stars fast and impressive 7 April 2010
Verified Purchase
I had had been having problems printing photos from my Toshiba laptop (with no monitor colour control) for a while and had been manually adjusting each photo by running off lots of test prints. I am an art photographer but had been doing a friends wedding photos when I decided enough was enough and bought this product. Very easy to set up and the effects were impressive. I soon discovered my laptop background, instead of the bluey colours I thought it was, was actually a mucky brown! Prints on my canon printer are much better, I would go as almost being perfect.
A few little problems that stop this from being a 5 star review: If anything there is a very slight blue tine, it is very slight and barely noticeable but can make B&W images appear too cold. Also the screen re-calibrates automatically every few minutes which I found a bit excessive to begin with but have now found how to change the settings so it only re-adjusts every 15 minutes now.
Would definitely recommend of those on a budget as the savings on test prints and the quality of my prints with this product will end up saving you more money in the long run.
