Top Customer Reviews

Format: Paperback
Paul Harris must be applauded for collating this terrific collection. These routines form the basis of the work of theatre, tv and movie comedians over the last (in some cases)100 years.

For those not familiar with comedy scripts, they should not be confused with joke books where the gags are immediately obvious on the page, hence some of the confusion raised in other reviews where they find them 'unfunny'. Anyone read the Fawlty towers scripts? Exactly.

For those smart enough to recognise their true value and try them out, they will be ultimately rewarded.

Implicit to Paul Harris' excellent text is the amount of experience that exudes from the writing. This is not just a book of 'flat' comedy scripts, it is a volume of expert information from a man who has performed them at the very highest level. To dismiss them as 'unfunny' is not only falsely superior and disrespectful but also naiive in the extreme.

If you think these gags are old fashioned and won't appeal to todays kids... Buy yourself a Chuckle Brothers DVD - All these routines are there. All the scripts are here!

If there is room for improvement then it must be that some classic routines are not included in this book: The Choir Sketch; The Beer Gag; Who, Why, What (later adapted by Abbott & Costello as 'Who's On First?') and a number of others.

This book contains all the stuff that you need to MAKE a panto. Every year the question comes: 'What's the big comedy scene this year?'. What they don't know is that I get them all from this book!

Get the most out of the unique comedy opportunity that panto offers - These fit seamlessly into any script.

Perfect!

(First edition) Lots of classic panto gags and short sketches suitable for insertion into a script you write yourself. Note that this does not contain much material on panto plots and style so it's not a complete "how to write a panto" book. A few nice anecdotes too.

My husband bought this book when he was writing the script for a panto that a local group for people with learning disabilities were putting on. He got lots of good ideas and jokes and sight gags from it. Well worth it if you are into that sort of thing.

This is an absolute MUST HAVE book for anyone interested in pantomime. The routines are written is such a manner that any group of keen performers - amateur or professional - will find them eminently workable. All they need is an audience - not supplied!
