Well having been bowled over by the same author's collection 'Rosa Mundi' this is a wonderful contrast. A very witty sequence of poems which link classical verse to everyday and celebrity events - such as 'An answer to C S Lewis's poem against cosmetics' and 'The goddess Hera commiserates with Mrs Tiger Woods' (now his ex-wife!). And if blogging is an anathema to you 'Blogged down' will certainly hit the spot. The 'Literary' section is extremely clever - you can almost hear them being read by the original poets - as 'Death in Leamington' by John Betjeman aged 12 1/2 (tones of the wonderful Adrian Mole). I must also mention here - as in Rosa mundi - that Lynn Roberts is responsible for the wonderful illustrations. She is obviously a very gifted artist and poet who deserves to be exposed to as wide an audience as possible.

This would make an original alternative dinner party gift from yet another box of chocolates - and will give the recipient lasting pleasure.

Many years ago Martin Jarvis read on Radio 4 some very clever and funny sketches by Michael Frayn based on how the ancient philosophers - if living in the 20thC - would try to explain their theories to their families. This collection would be a perfect successor.
