Long May The Fluffers Keep It Up,
By
This review is from: Pandemonium Ensues (Audio CD)
Wow. I bought this and the U2 thing and guess which one i can't stop playing? If there was any justice Glenn and the Fluffers would have had their day at the BBC instead of the Dublin doodlers.Pandemonium Ensues is Glenn and The Fluffers first full album as a band (where Transatlantic Ping Pong featured some Fluffers tracks) and you can hear the fun they had making it, from the chuckle on the outro of Slaughtered Artist to the rather literal Happy Disposition this is the sort of music we need in these "difficult" times. There is the straight ahead pop of Best Of Times and Black Sheep that would be at home in any decade, then the lush, soulful Still which could have been penned for Al Green. Each band member plays their part in the songwriting department with additional respect due to Lucy (and Stephen) for the string arrangements. Non Fluffer Chris Braide contributes to 3 songs, notably the tribute to Malcolm Hardy on Melancholy Emotion and the paean to kids fleeing the nest that is Little Ships. The album as a whole is suffused with domestic bliss with the odd bit of introspection. Interest & Love has another swipe at the King of F*** All, wrapped up in a rather gorgeous tune and whilst the likes of the quirky Product and the instrumental (save for Johnny Depp's vocal) Too Close to the Sun probably wouldn't have survived a major label A&R knife, on here they're not out of place and show that Mr T isn't just happy to rest on what he has done in the past and is still exploring new ideas, cos he can. Glenn is in fine form and shows no signs of losing his melodic mojo. Long may the Fluffers keep it up.

TILBROOK SQUEEZES OUT WITH HIS FLUFFERS,
By
This review is from: Pandemonium Ensues (MP3 Download)
Glenn Tilbrook's first full band, post Squeeze, album is a 14 track affair that takes in rockabilly, love songs, experimentation and, of course, bittersweet pop that recalls past glories with his Deptford buddies. Strangely there is no sign of recent single Binga Bong (no great loss) but there is plenty of melodic trickery and great tunes.A more consistent sounding record than Transatlantic Ping Pong, thanks to the sterling musicianship of long time collaborators The Fluffers and the mixing talents of Bob Clearmountain, Pandemonium Ensues is a good natured long player with wit and big chorus's to spare. 'She Makes Me', 'Through The Net' and the bouncy 'Black Sheep' bring to mind 'Ridiculous' period Squeeze with a hint of Blur thrown in for good measure whilst 'Still' and 'Interest & Love' (the latter featuring the vocal talents of Vanessa Paradis) reward repeated listening in spades. It's also worth noting that, whilst not entirely successful, 'Product' and 'Too Close To The Sun' are happy to flirt with experimentation and sound not unlike early Split Enz. It's hard to think of any other musician 30 years into a career with the guts to throw out such musical curve balls. Lyrically he's no Chris Difford but Pandemonium Ensues does show that Tilbrook has quietly honed and perfected his own wordplay to a level that should make the proposed new Squeeze record very interesting indeed. Impressive stuff.

Glenn gives us The Best of Times,
By
This review is from: Pandemonium Ensues (Audio CD)
So good. So very very good. A Cd that grows on you the more you play it. As a lifelong devotee of all things Tilbrook, I can say that, for me, it really is equal to the best music he has ever created. Now thats saying something with such superbly crafted music already to his name, and a Novello Award on his mantlepiece.Pandemonium Ensues is a CD with everything, from Melancholy Emotion to Interest and Love. I know when friends have listened to the CD`s I`ve sent them as they are humming black Sheep when I meet them! The Best of Times will lift you up on the greyist of mornings. The energy of Beachland Ballroom rocks. Do yourself a favour, stop reading this and click on buy, NOW! (and check out Fluffers TV on his website.) The man is a genius who will make you happier than a bag of happy pills!
