how to do the right thing at the right time, 7 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Panchang Moon Astrology: How to do the right thing at the right time (Paperback)
I am a compete newcomer to Panchang astrology, so when I read the book (which took roughly three hours) it came as a complete surprise to me that so much about Panchang involves learning to use your intuition.
Michael Geary, uses an ancient astrological system (Panchang) which teaches us that Time is like the weather: it moves in cycles and creates different sets of conditions, Fierce, Tender etc... sometimes it rains...and at other times it rains (sorry, that is an English perception!).
The book describes eleven main different qualities of Time and teaches us how to recognise them as they appear and disappear in your environment like waves that rise and fall.
Recognising Time also means developing your intuition and being sensitive to your surroundings, looking for signs and gauging the atmosphere.
These changes in Time are calculated by the cycles of the moon as it moves through not only the zodiac but also through strange constellations (Nakshatras) that do not appear in western astrology.
The whole idea of Time as something tangible really got me hooked, it was easy to read, thought provoking and unpretentious.
Panchang is a complete change from any book on astrology I ever read; it's much more experiential and practical.
It's kind of like, "Here's how it works, now go and try it!"
I also liked the way that the book gave you back a sense of control over your own life, it's not a fatalistic astrology but much more about trying to work in harmony with your environment...
The second half of the book relates to actually planning actions in harmony with Time, "...like a surfer catches the right wave to take him to shore". It all seems to be common sense, there are good days and there are bad days, why didn't anybody write this book before?
Basically, Panchang.com (the book is also a companion to the website) is an easy to use Time forecaster and personal diary for people who want to plan important actions astrologically. (Holidays, babies, weddings, new business, etc.)
It's a pretty impressive book, light reading... maybe light years ahead we'll all be using Panchang technology!
Good reading for plane, trains, bed, bath and throne...
I Recommend to both believers and open minded sceptics for new ways to look at Time...

Unlike the previous reviewer I found this book to be a complete waste of time (!). Never have I known a book to waffle so much and the gist of the content could have been condensed into page. It doesn't really tell you much about charting the good/bad days, except to use your intuition and look for the signs. The only useful guide was the suggestion that the few days before a new moon and full moon are unstable.
There are constant references to the website [...] which apparently contains a lot of useful information. I'm afraid I'm not prepared to pay the £40 p.a. necessary to access it though.
A long advert for the website, save your money.
