New VIERA NeoPDP Plasma TV

Deep blacks and breathtaking clarity result in a more powerful viewing experience ideal for sports, movies and gaming. And because they also have Freeview HD built in, you’ll be able to catch the best of this summer’s High Definition sporting action subscription free, as well as your favourite soaps, dramas and documentaries in full HD glory.

Panasonic's VIERA NeoPDP plasma televisions feature breakthrough technology to bring deeper blacks and sharper pictures
Panasonic's VIERA NeoPDP plasma televisions feature breakthrough technology to bring deeper blacks and sharper pictures

NeoPDP - Continuing to Redefine Plasma Technology

Panasonic's VIERA NeoPDP is a breakthrough in plasma technology, featuring a range of innovations that bring every detail of life. The power behind NeoPDP is larger cell surfaces and improved phosphor mixtures of the display panel which ensure bright, true-to-life colours. What’s more, the cell’s pilot light has been minimised to achieve deeper blacks and higher contrast, while new & refined image processors bring out the very best of this ground breaking panel technology.

VIERA incorporates an improved panel production process and the new Real Black Drive system. A pre-discharge control system, the Real Black Drive system achieves next-generation black reproduction. When you're watching movies, VIERA renders images just the way the director intended, even in scenes where it's difficult to achieve a proper balance of light and dark.

600Hz Sub-field Drive with Intelligent Frame Creation Pro

To ensure smooth and judder-free pictures, VIERA NeoPDP employs innovative 600Hz Sub-field Drive with Intelligent Frame Creation Pro. This is a Panasonic's unique image-analysis processor that converts the motion in each scene into sub-fields. The sub-fields are then optimised to display fast action scene in Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution with amazingly smooth motion. Each frame is displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous processor - virtually eliminating unsightly smearing & after effects.

View Photos from your SD Card

It's easy to view full-HD images with the SD card slot. Watch and show your photos and motion images right after you take them. Simply insert an SD Memory Card into VIERA to display photos and full-HD videos on the large screen. An easy-to-see, easy-to-use thumbnail display has also been added. You can also enjoy special background music, slideshow frames and transition effects.

Game Mode

In Game Mode, quicker image response increases the enjoyment of video games when a game console is connected to the TV. What's more, VIERA produces the dark images in video games more clearly. This mode works with the anti-image retention (wobbling) function, too.

VIERA Eco Link

VIERA Link uses the control signals that are transmitted through an HDMI cable for automated functions. Just press the VIERA Link button on the VIERA TV remote to control your entire Panasonic components including Home Cinema Systems, HD camcorder and Lumix digital cameras.
In 2009 the VIERA Link concept has been further developed, providing you even more functions. For example, Eco Link which helps you to save energy by putting all connected Panasonic devices into sleep mode when they are not used.

With VIERA Eco Link, you can connect and control all your Panasonic devices efficiently through your TV, without wasting power

Saving Energy with Eco Mode

As people become more aware about environmental concerns, the power consumption of their electronic products presents itself. To improve on the environmental impact of power consumption, Panasonic has introduced an Eco Mode as standard in most of its VIERA TVs. By activating the Eco Mode, a photo sensor measures the ambient light conditions of the room and the picture settings adjust automatically. As a result, the TV uses less power in darkly-lit conditions without any compromise of the picture quality.

Build to Resist – VIERA Tough Panel

Panasonic VIERA Plasma TVs are protected by a front sheet of glass resistant to impacts of up to four joules. This is particularly reassuring for families with small children who may otherwise inadvertently damage the screen when playing.
Also, the growing success of games consoles using motion controllers has led to an increase in TVs being accidentally struck and damaged by controllers which have slipped out of player’s hands. Thanks to VIERA plasma TVs’ Tough Panel you don’t need to worry. And what’s more, the protective panel makes cleaning easier too, simply wipe with a soft cloth when necessary.

Lower Power Consumption

With the NeoPDP panel, Panasonic has radically lowered the energy consumption of their TVs. NeoPDP televisions only need half as much energy as 2007 models to produce the same amount of brightness, doubling their efficiency. This has been made possible by expert engineers who have employed an improved luminous gas, larger cells and newly created electronic packaging. The result is an improvement in picture quality and eco-friendliness in equal measure.

Long-Life Design - up to 100,000 Hours of Viewing Enjoyment

Because a TV should have as little negative impact on the environment as possible, it must function for many years. That is why Panasonic Plasma TVs have been engineered to deliver an excellent viewing experience for up to an amazingly long 100,000 hours. So if you were to watch TV eight hours a day – that would be 30 years!

Panasonic lead-free Plasma TVs

Flat screen TVs that employ conventional technologies may contain a spot of harmful chemicals such as lead or mercury. These chemicals are then set free when the TV is taken to recycling at the end of its lifecycle. Already in 2006 and as the first manufacturer worldwide, Panasonic has completely eliminated the use of lead and mercury in their flat screen TVs.

    By AK TOP 500 REVIEWER
While it might not be able to compete with the newest 3D capable screens for involvement and picture quality, or with the LED screens in terms of low energy consumption, this is an excellent TV regardless. In fact it is probably one of the best of the ones I have seen in 50" at this very reasonable price point - going either 3D or LED (or a combination) is likely to set you back at least another 50% of the price of this TV, if you want anything approaching the size or picture quality offered here.

As expected these days, it connects straight from the box and will offer most of the standard features one hopes to get (3 HDMI ports, together with 2 SCART and one AV one, an SD card reader, Freeview, etc). The 600 Hz refresh is especially useful when gaming - there is a special gaming mode with faster response, too (on top of the normal, and two different movie / cinema modes).

On top of all that, if you decided that going plasma is the route you want to take, Panasonic is still the brand to beat now that Pioneer left the TV market.

Overall you will hardly be able to do better at this price point.

    Stunning 17 Jan 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a drunken impulse buy on Christmes Eve but no regrets at all. Been on my wish list for a couple of weeks as an upgrade to my three year old 42 inch Panasonic plasma. Yes its big but what a set. First TV arived with a smashed screen but Amazon were great. Replacement delivered in two days. The Freeview HD is so crisp and sharp, standard def fantastic even on a screen this size. It does not have the bells and whistles of other Panna tv e.g internet acces USB but if you don't need that or have a PS3 then go fot this. One review i read said it's ugly, It's not, The finish is kind of gloss carbon fibre. It's different but it works. The bummer for all you potential buyers, the price has shot up since Christmas. I paid £679. even at the current price it's still a steal. If you want a cheap electricity bill buy a LED/LCD. If you want the best picture you can get for the money then defo buy this set. In my opinion and I have other tv's from the likes of Samsung you just can not beat a Panasonic plasma. The life of this TV according to Panasonic if used for 8 hours per dy is 30 years. Need I say more.
