Manufacturer's Description

The G20 Series includes a DVB-S tuner for Freesat HD and a DVB-T2 tuner for Freeview HD providing you with a convenient, subscription free way of watching HD contents like sport, as well as your favorite soaps, dramas and documentaries in full HD glory.600Hz Sub-field Drive technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into data. And each frame is practically displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects.A contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 enables VIERA to display extremely robust blacks. A filter, improvements to the cell discharge area, and enhanced cell performance have greatly increased luminous efficiency to produce crisp blacks. And minimizing the electrical pre-discharge helps to both raise contrast and save energy.THX reproduces film images exactly as the film's creators intended them. The overall aim was to improve the experience of cinema-goers and faithfully recreate the audio and visual ambience that filmmakers intended. To receive THX certification, TVs undergo stringent tests to determine, for example, whether the exact same brightness and color are displayed at all screen locations, and whether black levels satisfy standard criteria. VIERA meets the high standards set by the THX Certified Display Program.Enjoy Internet content right on your TV. With VIERA CAST you can enjoy online videos, photos, and more. You can also check sports, news, weather and stock information with an easy-to-use Web interface that's built into the TV. Kuro who? 2 May 2010
Finally, after 5 months of hard, exhaustive research I have chosen my new tv. The 2010 Panasonic TX-P50G20B.

Im no techophile but at the same time I know how a bad TV can be a complete home entertainment ruiner. Having settled on this set to avoid such a scenario, I fnally took delivery of it yesterday and have had a good 10 or 12 hours so far to get used to it.

First impressions - wow!. Second impression - wow! Im on about impression 100 now and its still the same. I first tried it on the sky HD box. Great SD quality - bearing in mind a 480 line signal was being upconverted to 1080 lines on a huge 50 inch screen. Sky HD - well that ranged from good to great. Thats more the broadcaster's fault than the TV's. Some of the HD channels out there still look about SD and a half. Try Discovery HD on this set though and it will blow your mind. On THX setup (wholly recommended for most viewing) the colours were bright, crisp and clear. The blacks were properly black and the motion was fine. On occasion some bits and pieces can be a bit juddery in SD (but you really have to look hard) but turn the IFC on and that clears that up.

Next came the Xbox 360 and PS3. I tried playing a music tune on the ps3 to get the 'earth and space' background show so I could get an idea of the blacks. I have NEVER seen blacks so black. For all the people that are Kuro worshippers, how much blacker exactly do you want your blacks?! As for the gaming - smooth, no phosphor trails (trust me, I looked hard and I was playing Wipeout HD - pretty much the fastest game out there at the moment), no judder and a screen that just popped out of the glass at me. 11/10. No, make that 12/10. Impressive.

The xbox 360 was the same. Although a bit of fiddling was needed to ensure the HD DVDs played without stutter (make sure the output of the xbox is 1080p 50Hz and not 60Hz). Again, superb quality.

I have literally just finished watching avatar on Blu Ray and that truly has to be seen to be believed on this set. The colours of Pandora (esp at night) were astounding.

A few other thoughts. The sound is fine for most needs. If you like your bass obviously you are never going to hear anything special on any flat screen TV. Plenty of connections (4 HDMI is good to see). The set itself hardly makes a sound. No buzzing or whining. In fact, no fans at all! You will definitely need 2 or more people to set this TV up though. Its heavy. Well over 30kg.

Overall, at this (fairly) early stage, all thumbs up. No issues at all. I think the people who do find issues must literally sit 1 foot away from the screen for hours on end analysing every pixel. For those of us who just want to enjoy our games and movies, I believe at the moment there is no better set.

Oh and one last thing - no image retention! Ive been playing a lot of xbox and npthing left on the screen.

I have had this tv for over 6 weeks now and like one reviewer i was initaly disappointed with the SD pictures on this set but seeing Dr Who and a couple of other Freesat HD programs it showed the true potential of this set the colour the depth of picture and yes the blackness of the blacks.
Blu ray as to be expected is stunning also so it's like the old adage you cant make a silk purse out of a pigs ear
the quality of the original program dictates what it looks like on the tv the original Italian job looked great on film 4 in SD all in all a great tv.
A word of advice if you are looking at this set in one of the major electrical superstores don't think the picture quality is that bad 9 times out of 10 the LG's samsungs etc will be pumping out some super saturated Blu Ray like street racer or a dedicated Blu Ray from the manufacturer whilst the Panasonic will be showing some SD content like sky sports news or the like ..... Why because the stores get a kick back for every sale on the afore mentioned sets do yourself a favor and go to a proper retailer who will show you what this set is capable of before you part with a large amount of your hard earned

Well if you are reading this, then you like me are doing your home work before buying. I researched for about three months and changed my mind about what to buy several times. I have lost count of how many reviews I studied. In the end I went for the Panasonic Viera TX-P50G20B 50" Full HD Plasma TV.

The TV wasn't on display so I couldn't see what the picture was like, but after my research I bought it anyway. This TV is brilliant, the picture quality is first class, and the clarity is just outstanding. We have the HD sky package which when coupled to the TV has to be seen to be believed.
When watching the football the other night, I was just blown away by the pure quality of the detail that you can see. On still action you can see individual blades of grass. How good is that? We also watched " The wizard of oz" to see the details of the costumes and the brilliance of the scenery has to be seen to be believed.

This TV has a 5 million to 1 contrast with a zero viewing angle; it also has a 600 hertz refresh rate. What does this mean, well on the contrast and refresh rate the higher the better. On the angle of view the lower the better. If your PC screen is LED or LCD move to the side and see how the picture starts to fade, this is what will happens with these types of TV. They are great if there is just you and you are going to sit straight in front of the screen, not so good for everyone else. Even better go to a show room and view the TVs on display form several angles, you can judge for yourself just how good they are.

I did read some reviews that said the internal speakers were not very good, I have to disagree. The speakers are fine, I do have a set of external speakers hooked up to the TV, these run through an amp and pre-amp. However 99% of the time I just listen to the TV with just the internal speakers.

So in conclusion, if you want to buy a big screen TV and want outstanding picture quality, then I have no hesitation recommending this TV to family and friends. Do everyone in your house hold a favour, buy this TV you will not be disappointed.
