Product Description

Product Description

The Panasonic TX-L55ET5B, 55" Smart VIERA LED TV gives a Smart Experience with Easy 3D performance.

A polarizing film on the display surface displays the left and right images for each of the odd-numbered and even-numbered horizontal scanning lines. When viewed through polarizing eyewear, different images are shown to the left and right eyes, resulting in the perception of 3D images. This method reduces the vertical resolution to one-half, but it is an easy way to view 3D images using light, economical eyewear. Great for watching with a group of people.

In addition to increasing the generated frames from 50 to 100 frames per second, backlight control has evolved through area splitting. The backlight's fine blinking reduces afterimages, to produce smooth, fast movements without blurring. Sports scenes, action scenes and other fast-motion images are crisp and clear.

Unique Panasonic technology converts 2D images into high-quality 3D images in real-time. The image depth is analyzed from the compositional, color and brightness data of each scene, to convert 2D images into naturally beautiful 3D images. In addition to ordinary TV programs, this method can be used to convert a variety of 2D images — such as web content, Blu-ray Disc™ media, and photos and movies saved onto SD Memory Cards — into 3D images with a high level of precision.

With VIERA's wide 178° viewing angle, you see clear, vibrant images from every seat in the room. The backlight features a wide transmission aperture that enhances contrast between light and dark and improves response to provide smoother motion images.

VIERA Connect allows users to enjoy video and music, sports, games, and a variety of other content in addition to the standard movies and TV programmes on a high-quality large-screen TV through the simple operation of a remote control. The cloud-based Internet service also supports interactive services using applicable equipment as well as an Internet-based shopping function that allows such equipment to be purchased straight from the TV.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great TV. But screen reflects like a mirror 4 Jun 2012
    Size Name:47-inch
The picture on this TV is fabulous, sound a little bit less than expected in quality so intend buying a sound bar. 3D effects are stunning. Well made as to be expected from Panasonic with plenty of HDMI connections for Sky, DVD and BT. The built in wireless works very well and was easy to set up.
I have two grumbles though. The first is that the screen is so shiny, it is almost like a mirror, so that the reflections in daylight make viewing not very good with too much loss of quality. Also in the dark, it reflects any room lights, even small table lamps so I have had to switch them off and reposition them, which is not the best solution as they were chosen to fit the room.
The second grumble is that the Sky HD box control, when calling up the tv guide, is now very slow. The time lag only appeared with this set and was not there on my previous one that I replaced. It is annoying, even though it is is only several seconds delay. Can't seem to fix this problem.
Otherwise, a very good product, but the grumbles loose it one star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny 9 Mar 2012
    Size Name:47-inch
The tv is well built and sturdy, very attractive bezzel and attractive colour. All ports feel sturdy, no flex or move in them. Very Impressed.

With the different sound modes and the ability to use the inbuilt equalizer which greatly can improve the sound. In most big tvs the on board sound can be tinny or weak. The sound from this tv is pretty awesome.

With the big 47inch 1080p display with a massive contract ratio the picture is so crisp. Using sky hd the image colors are solid. There is no screen bleeding at the edges and the led lit screen provides great brightness and is easy to view in bright rooms. Watching blurays, playing games or whatever your doing on this tv. It will look great.

    4. 3d
As for 3d on this tv, ive never been a lover of 3d itself. But the tv does it well. Like most passive 3d tvs it will use light weight 3d glasses. The same ones u use at the cinema, so if u have a pair of those hold onto them, they will work on the tv. If you have the correct equipment for 3d playback then its sweet. The 3d is crisp, and with more and more 3d content becoming available there will be plenty for you to watch.

Great for family movies, or just having loads of friends over

Overall the only thing i didnt like about the tv was the remote, its a standard Panasonic one, and no quick selection options for the picture mode or sound move.

    Other than that, 1000000% buy

    5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning 9 Mar 2012
    Size Name:37-inch
I bought this before any reviews came out because I wanted a wide viewing angle and LED backlighting. However, I had concerns relating to passive 3D LED TVs.

Edge-lit LED panels can show unpleasant cones of light coming from the LEDs on the bottom edge. Off-axis, blacks can take on a blue hint and passive 3D pictures are poor when the viewer is off the vertical axis. Light-weight sound quality afflicts recent flat panel TVs.

So, how did the TX-L37ET5B do? Well a lot better than I had expected. There were no visible cones regardless of picture, room lighting or viewing angles. Yes, off axis blacks become a pale blue when viewed at extreme angles but for normal angles, black is very dark (frankly, black) and not tinted. The 3D is very sensitive to vertical viewing angle so your eyes really have to be situated close to perpendicular to the screen centre although horizontal angles are very good. Think about this if you are going to wall mount it.

With good source material, pictures can really come to life in 2D and 3D. In 2D, the picture is lively and detailed - stunning on the Avatar Blu Ray. Believe it or not, it's run close on some FreeView HD material though a large number of FreeView HD transmissions aren't that high in image detail.

To me, 3D was a sales gimmick before I got this TV. However, this TV makes a superb job of 3D. Despicable Me is fantastic fun and will have kids and wives screaming and ducking to avoid objects flying out of the TV. I couldn't see any obvious degradation due to the 50% loss of vertical resolution in 3D. Trying Avatar 2D in 2D to 3D mode was interesting but it made a sufficiently good go of this to make it a viable option. Having a big head(!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice 26 Oct 2012
    Size Name:42-inch
After my son returned from university with his aged 40" LCD Samsung television, and kicked out our antique 28" CRT Panasonic, I decided it was time to upgrade. Choice was between the Sony 40" 753 model or the 42" ET5B - the Panasonic won because of the excellence of the 12 year old 28" CRT.
Picture quality ? Excellent on the freeview HD channels, very good on the SD ones.
Sound ? OK-ish from the TV's own speakers, but better to run it through a dedicated 2.1 or 5.1 sound system.
Passive 3D ? Very good - 4 pairs of glasses came with the set.
2D-3D convertor ? Works well, but maybe won't get much use.
Connectivity ? Set is connected direct to home hub via ethernet cable. Can access BBC i-player etc but........although I can see the Web Browser application to give full web access, I haven't a clue how to enable it, and there's nothing in the handbook. I've e-mailed Panasonic twice so far, but have yet to receive a reply.
So, it should have been 5 stars, but reduced to 4 because of the lack of the web browser - why on earth does it not come pre-installed ?
By the way, not purchased from Amazon, but from a store offering a free 5-year warranty, and for 20 less !
