Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Panasonic's V-real collection of leading-edge imaging technologies has evolved into the V-real II and V-real Pro II systems. These new technologies combine expertise gained in developing the high-definition cameras used to broadcast the Olympics Games with advanced authoring technologies developed at the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory (PHL). Every system, device and component in VIERA reflects Panasonic's relentless pursuit of superior image quality from every angle. The result is video reproduction that reaches the level of art.
In addition to inheriting the video control for each field from previous models, VIERA incorporates Clear Picture technology that provides finer video control for each image pattern. This newly developed Panasonic technology also improves "pure red" and "clear blue" reproduction, so you enjoy clear, vibrant images with vivid colours and remarkable depth. Also, Sub-Pixel Controller technology sharpens images by correcting the contours of each dot. Afterimages (hold time) in moving pictures have been reduced by about 50% compared with our previous models. This minimizes blurriness and provides smoother, sharper reproduction of fast-moving images. VIERA is ideal for viewing action movies or watching baseball games, football games, and broadcasts of other sports

    5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 13 Aug 2007
This review is from: Panasonic TX-32LXD70 - 32" Widescreen Viera HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)

If you're looking at a nice new shiny 32" TV, then you really should stop looking. You've found the best money can buy right here.

The Panasonic Viera range is getting excellent reviews at the moment. Which? recently made Viera's more than half their Best Buys in a round up, which tells you something about the quality they are producing right now. Pulling this one out the range is easy. It improves over the LMD70 by adding 100Mhz technology, but saves £100 against the LXD700, which offers a slightly nicer look (all black) and improved sound system. Your choice if you think that's worth it, but bear in mind that this looks pretty stylish anyway and if you aren't already hooking up your DVD player to a 5.1 surround sound system, the £100 saving could go a ways towards this.

Firstly, let's be clear about the 100Mhz technology. It's not about a flicker free picture. It's about increasing the number of frames the panel shows to reduce motion smear. I'll quote Trusted Reviews here and give their explanation, "The thinking (in oversimplified terms!) is that by doubling the number of frames that appear per second, you can put back in some of the resolution lost by LCD pixels struggling to react in time to changes in the image content."

LCD panels can suffer from a blurred image when images pan quickly across the screen. Watching football and seeing the crowd fly by in the background as a greasy smudge isn't great when you're old CRT TV never had this problem. This problem is worse on some LCD TVs than others, but the 100Mhz technology applied here certainly makes a difference, having compared the LMD (without) and LXD (with) side-by-side.

The 100Mhz technology combined with the Viera's other image processing systems combine to produce an excellent picture. Happily, that goes for standard definition (SD) as well as high definition (HD). The pictures from my Sky+ box and the Freeview channels are excellent, even when the source picture is relatively poor. Better still, the image doesn't look horribly over-processed to achieve this, either. And on the subject of Freeview, I would switch to this TV's Freeview channels permanently, since the TV Guide and its use are better than Sky's Fisher Price affair, if only it offer all the Sky+ functions...

Using an upscaling DVD player (Philips 5980), DVD images also look excellent especially more recent releases like Superman Returns. These really are very sharp and produce quite stunning pictures, sometimes all but indistinguishable from an HD source.

Unsurprisingly, given this TV's excellent SD credentials, HD also looks extremely impressive. Using Apple TV and some HD downloads, I was blown away by the image. Sharp, colourful and blur-free. Excellent.

Top marks all round, then, without any downsides that I can find. Very easy to set up (lift out box, plug in sources, power on, auto tune in a couple of minutes and you're done), well designed remote, and magnificent picture, comprehensive connection options keeping it future proof. It's only worth considering the LXD700 if you're going to use the TV as your primary speaker system, because the sound is only acceptable from this model. I personally would use the price difference to get a basic DVD Upscaler and 5.1 speaker system though.

Marvellous service from Amazon. Ordered this set on Thursday 23rd August and arrived at my house at 10.am on Friday 24th August!! By 11am it was out of its box, set up and being viewed. I had read 'Which', surfed the internet for technical reports, read the Amazon reviews and even gone to local shops to get various salemen's opinions. You could say I had done my homework! It came down this set or a Sony. It was the price difference which really tipped the balance. I am extrememly pleased with this television. I particularly like the fact that you can swivel the set to different viewing areas. The handset is more substantial and user friendly than the Sony in my bedroom. With just a few tweakings of the 'picture' option I now have a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars v.happy , no reason to look elsewhere...., 28 Aug 2007

This review is from: Panasonic TX-32LXD70 - 32" Widescreen Viera HD Ready LCD TV - With Freeview (Electronics)
bought from amazon end of June and been v.happy with TV. As per other reviews very easy to set up. Have been using the DVB all the time as the picture quality is superb. So, far only used the Scart connections with good quality cables and again can't find anything negative so say. A review in one of the mags put me onto this model (won the group test i think) and i really don't look elsewhere after i found it on Amazon for what seemed a competitive price. I think its about £40 cheaper now so i can't really see why anyone would want to buy another model or manufacturer. This TV replaced a 100mhz Pana CRT set which has now moved off to a bedroom and i'd say the picture quality on this LCD panel is better. Haven't used the HDMI inputs yet but i feel confident the results will be as good if not better.
