Manufacturer's Description
The new Plasma Display TH-50PHW3 delivers the finest picture quality ever achieved in a plasma display, to unleash all the power and dynamism of today's advanced video sources, including HDTV, DVD and personal computers. Panasonic's Real Black Drive System provides a remarkable 3000:1 contrast, while our original Advanced Plasma AI and Asymmetrical Cell Structure Panel deliver crisp, vivid whites.
Conventional plasma displays tend to illuminate blacks, diminishing the power of the image. With T[tau] Plasma, Panasonic's Real Black Drive System dramatically lowers black illumination. This results in extraordinary 2000:1 contrast ratio. Panasonic's unique Advanced Plasma AI increases the discharge cycles for dark scenes, and it has double the brightness control precision of our previous systems. The result is an unprecedented brightness of 500 cd/m2. The TH-50PHW3 greatly expands the dynamic range of all images, from black to white peak resulting in pistures which are crisp, natural and powerful.
The TH-50PHW3 can reproduce around 1, 024 shades - twice the number of our previous systems. This results in a far superior reproduction of low-light portions of the image, a weakness in many conventional plasma displays. It also provides more faithful image reproduction across the entire dynamic range.
The new Plasma features a False-Edge Predictor circuit, which drastically reduces moving picture noise.
This function turns the interface signals used in present broadcasts into progressive scan signals for optimal performance in the dot matrix system of Plasma displays. Our 3-Dimensional Progressive Scan extracts the interpolated pixel data with the highest correlation from a total of 10 lines of image information for three fields (the present field and the fields before and after). This greatly reduces the blurry motion that tends to occur with the conventional systems, giving you clean and natural moving pictures.
The TH-50PHW3 employs a panel with a unique asymmetrical cell structure that achieves both high brightness and crisp whites - a combination not possible with previous systems. The asymmetrical arrangement of the red, blue and green cells dramatically improves a light-emitting balance of the three primary colours. This reproduces purer whites while maintaining a high level of brightness . The use of a wavelength-selective filter on the front panel and new green phosphors also expands the range of colour reproduction to the level of HDTV studio standards, resulting in rich, natural colour expression.
The TH-50PHW3 lets you take advantage of the superior picture quality available from today's most advanced media. It enables you to hook up digital component video inputs (Y, Pb, Pr) to the unit for viewing of DTV broadcasts in either HDTV (1080i or 720p) or SDTV (480p or 480i) formats. In order to view DTV programming , the TH-42PW3B must be connected to a separate DTV set-top box.
To assure compatibility with a wide range of PC modes, the TH-50PHW3 automatically switches the scanning frequency depending on the input signal. It offers a horizontal scanning rate of 15.6kHz up to a very high 110 kHz, and vertical scanning of 45Hz to 120 Hz. The converter can process VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA and UXGA modes, and signal processing for all systems are readily available (525p, 5254, 625p, 6251, 720p and 10801 format).
The panel's heat radiation efficiency eliminates the need for a fan. This 'silence engineering' delivers a quiet operation that makes a more plesant viewing experience.
A newly developed power supply circuit combines with improvements in the panel's light-emitting efficiency to reduce power consumption by 25% compared to previous models
