5.0 out of 5 stars Name it on your insurance!, 25 Jul 2001

The Panasonic SJMR200 Minidisc Recorder is just what you'd expect from a top of the range product from a great manufacturer. It's small and light enough to fit into your shirt pocket, its brushed metallic exterior and feather touch keypad will impress any onlookers, even the headphones look sexy. But of course the most important feature is its functionality. This doesn't disappoint. Great sound, great recording with easy editing and an almost aeonian battery life. I believe it to be superior to the Sony equivalents. My only grumble is the omission of an optical cable needed for perfect digital recording. With the added cost of this the SJMR200 is put into the Sony price bracket but I would still opt for the Panasonic. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, 3 Dec 2002
By A Customer
This fantastic minidisc player has outlived my friends sony minidisc player/recorders by a long shot!

one of the many functions allows you to copy track titles to another disk saving you having to type out the titles again.

The rechargeable battery lasts for ages, no kidding; its lasted a coach journey to switzerland (and back) without the use of the battery pack.

The remote control is clever as you can see through the screen. But the clip seems to be the wrong way around there is no where useful you can clip it, unless you are wearing a shirt.

The headphones are snazzy but a bit tinny to listen to, so i bought some sony ones, (with a longer cable, allowing the remote to stretch to my pocket if you see what i mean.)

Nonetheless this is a good buy. It is still VERY small considering the advances in technology since i bought this md.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm probably just clumsy, but...., 24 Jun 2003

Ok when I bought this minidisc player it was the smallest and lightest one available, I don't know whether it still is or not but it is very convenient and light. It has pretty much everything you could want feature-wise except for long-play and all those new-fangled mp3-internet type things and the sound quality is great, as is the recording quality... until, that is, you drop it and the recording function stops working.

That's the problem you see. I dropped mine a few times, not from a great height or onto a hard floor. I suppose I just dropped it one too many times and as a result the recording function no longer works. I discovered this when I tried to record another track on the end of a minidisc full of my own music and it erased the whole thing and rendered the disc unuseable, and later when I tried writing the names to a disc it erased that too. I know this is really my fault for dropping it, but you'd think they'd have made it a bit tougher and able to withstand this treatment. The headphones also have a tendency to fall apart quite quickly and I'd reccomend buying new ones for it.
