Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

In the past, typical camcorder usage centered on recording special events, such as weddings and vacation trips. Camcorder usage has evolved, however, with many consumers now demanding models that offer higher image quality than previous models. Panasonic has moved to further expand demand by creating two new SD Card camcorders that fit unique applications and lend themselves to casual, everyday use. The SDR-S7 is a stylish model with an ultra-compact, go-anywhere design.Today many people post still images taken with their digital cameras onto Internet Websites and blogs. Sites for posting video clips are now becoming popular too, and more and more people are using motion images as a form of creativity, communication and self-expression. The SDR-SW20 and SDR-S7 debut at a time when the trend toward using video for casual, everyday use is growing strong. These two models, offering the small size, light weight and superb mobility made possible by SD/SDHC Memory Cards, let users shoot video with the same casual ease and carry-about convenience they enjoy with small digital still cameras. For occasions when in the past it may have seemed a bit awkward to pull out a camcorder, such as on short outings or business trips, the SDR-SW20 and SDR-S7 offer no such discomfit. Users can take out the SDR-SW20 or SDR-S7 and shoot with the same casual freedom as people snapping everyday photos with a still image camera.

First camcorder that I've bought and it works great. Super compact size, very light and with an 8GB card you can get a couple of hours of storage. Unlike DV and tape camcorders, it is extremely simple to edit and merge clips on a PC or Mac. Most impressively it starts up in seconds and the sound is very good, even when zoomed in.

Very good camera - small with lots of features - Picture quality is excellent and no tape-motor noise. Highly recommended for people looking for no-nonsense standard definition portability. (Although you may need a case.)

Absolutely brilliant! 26 Jun 2008
I bought a Canon camcorder only 6 months ago and never really got on with it as it was not really small enough to fit in a pocket and only recorded for 30 minutes onto mini dvds so I decided to get this tiny Panasonic and it is FANTASTIC! I took it to Sri Lanka on my holiday and with an 8gb SDHC memory stick I recorded for over 4 hours. It is so light and small that you can take it anywhere, it is up and running in seconds, and by the end of the holiday everyone in the group was taking the model number and wanting to get one too. It was smaller than most people's digital still camera. The quality is great and with the digital zoom going up to 700x with a steady hand I could shoot fruit bats that the others could not even see at the top of a tree in the next field! You will definitely not regret buying one.

Do not use Widescreen 16:9 mode, it's rubbish
The 16:9 setting quality is poor, it only uses 350k pixels.

Use 4:3 for the whole 400k pixels, so much better. Read more

Great camera, but NOT HD
This is a fantastic little camcorder, good audio and video quality, ridiculously easy to use. But it is listed as a HD camcorder, which it isn't.
