Amazon Verified Purchase
Panasonic SC-XH50EB-K DVD 5.1ch 330W Home Cinema Kit.

This is a replacement model for the S-PT70EB-K which began life back in 2006.

I am a brand name fan - partly for the company emblems to display my
good taste (!!) but mostly for the expected good quality of their products.
I recently purchased the XH-50 - delivered promptly by Amazon in their usual efficient manner - and spent an afternoon setting it all up. I have had a surround sound, 5.1 system for some years - ex LIDL Tevion model - which gave excellent service, great sound and so on but recently became unreliable due to a DVD drive that was often reluctant to activate. It had to go!
The new Panasonic equipment looked good and everything seemed to be commensurate with the modest purchase price of what is after all - at 330W output - a modest system, but ideal for budget minded, semi-detached dwellers like myself!
The surround sound amplifier has a single HPMI cable connection which plugs straight into the back of an HPMI enabled TV (preferably a Panasonic one, which allows full use of the Viera system). My original speaker cables were left in place and used to wire up the tiny but not unattractive new speakers. After some time figuring out the `easy set-up' procedure - so called - the system was up and running. Once you have the set-up menus onscreen its fairly straightforward.
If you have a Viera enabled Panasonic TV the amplifier will respond to the TV remote for some functions as well as the amplifiers dedicated controller. The DVD drawer can only be opened manually at the amp. but you have to visit anyway to place or replace the DVD or CD in the drawer so no great problem there. The drawer can however be closed remotely. The amps. front display is pretty irrelevant and is useful mainly just to see if it is on or off.

For such a modest set-up the sound is exceptionally good, both sonically and dramatically. Nothing like a bit of gunfire and the odd helicopter passing overhead through your living room ! I am well satisfied with the systems performance and can certainly recommend this equipment. Afraid I can't give the same complement to the Instruction manual, which is just about navigable for a veteran home entertainment semi-expert, but pretty much gobbeldy-gook for the innocent non techno newcomer! But don't give up in despair - with patience, success and satisfaction can be achieved!
Good equipment! Good price! Good performance! And a nice brand name!

I have recently purchased this Panasonic 5.1 Home Cinema system and after finally getting it to work, following a nightmare setting it up, I can reassuringly say that it could be much better. As described, the system is designed as an "easy to set up" unit with only one cable needed. However don't be sucked into this claim as this 'one' cable is for TV's equipped with what is known as 'ARC' (Audio Return Channel) enabled and to be honest I had never heard of this connection type until I read about it in this Home Cinema's instruction manual. So if your TV is not 'ARC' enabled as mine isn't then you will need to purchase an Audio Output cable (Red and White plugs either end) to connect. Why not connect it by Optical Sound cable as many of the other systems have I hear you ask? Well the answer is simple. There is no Optical Sound input on this unit. I bought an Optical Sound cable at the same purchase time thinking I would need one. This is a major let down for such a quality brand like Panasonic. The unit also has only one HDMI input port, 1 Scart port and only 1 sound output plug(s) which is very limited. I wanted to also use this system with my PS3 but I am yet to find out how to, if there is a way, to connect it.

What I can say posative about the system is that the sound isn't too bad once you have it up and running. The sub-woofer is good quality giving a nice deep bass.

I bought this system thinking it was such a good price for a quality brand but it hasn't turned out to be such a good buy after all. My opinion is spend a little bit more cash and get a system that has Optical Sound input and more than just one HDMI Connection port.

P.S. Amazon should really describe their products in more details so people like me aren't so let down by products like this.

I have been a fan and buyer of panasonic equipment, particularly TV and audio for longer than I care to remember. Normally I have never had issue with setting up Panasonic goods and their "quick start" instructions are normally simple and easily understood and work well. However on this occasion certain aspects of set up were rediculous and poorly explained. Getting the DVD player connected and up and running was very straightforward, however getting this system to provide TV sound proved mentally straining and gave me a severe headache. First of all ensure you have the "new" version of the HDMI cable if connecting in this manner. I was unaware that several versions now exist, so ensure you get a v1.4 which has ARC enabled, otherwise you will not get any TV sound fed back, unless you go down the audio lead route. Even after changing my original HDMI for the new v1.4 I still appeared to have no sound from the TV, then after trawling through both my Panasonic ARC TV guide and the home cinema system guides again I was at a complete loss. Having sent an E mail to Pan support, whict I will add they have not had the courtesy or decency to respond to (so dont expect any help from the manufacturer!!!) the system suddenly came to life and all is well! What a lot of wasted time!!

On the plus side the DVD upscaling to HD is excellent and the surround sound terrific.
