Product Description

Product Description

Panasonic SC-HC58DB

The HC58DB is a powerful 40 watts micro Hi-Fi system with Airplay and Bluetooth wireless music streaming. It includes DAB+ and FM radio with a motorised sliding door that conceals a CD player and an iPod/iPhone Dock for 5th generation devices. Panasonic's audio expertise uses digital amplification and speaker technology to deliver rich bass and outstanding vocal clarity. The crystal edge design adds elegance and beautifully blends this system in with any decor.

Product Concept

Slim and Stylish to fit your Lifestyle

The slim and stylish upright design of the Panasonic HC series makes it both easy to place and looks great in any room of the house.

High Quality Sound

Full Digital Amplifier System

The full digital amplifier handles all signal processing up to the point of speaker output in digital form. This produces clear sound with minimal distortion. A high-efficiency power circuit also provides a stable power supply and low power consumption.

Powerful 40 Watts Total Output

Compact audio systems often mean speaker power output is compromised, but that's not the case with this Panasonic model. Each channel delivers a full 20 watts RMS of high quality sound, a total of 40 watts output which is impressive enough for most rooms.

Pure Direct Sound System

Noise cancelling technology has been developed into the audio processor that lets you enjoy clear sound, eliminating the unwanted sound reflections that come from the speaker baffle.

Panasonic SC-HC58DB
Bass is controlled and less distorted
Direct Vocal Surround

This feature positions the musical instruments in a surround configuration and accentuates the vocals in the centre so you feel enveloped in sound. Enjoy the same great ambience as if you were listening to a live performance in an actual concert hall.

D. Bass

Bass sounds are conventionally controlled to match the sound volume, resulting in a loss of bass depth at low volumes. D. Bass however, detects the characteristics of music and emphasises the frequency band that has the most bass. This preserves the characteristics of the original musical instruments and produces powerful, rich bass sounds even at lower volumes.

Nano-sized Bamboo Cone Speaker

Nano-sized bamboo fibres have been developed for use in the construction of the speaker cone to reproduce clear vocals and a more dynamic sound that is free from distortion. Bamboo is a sustainable material that has great properties for clear audio reproduction when used to replace conventional speaker cone material. By carbonising the bamboo fibres to charcoal, this makes a lighter material that means faster response speed and reduced resonance.

Dual Passive Radiator

Thin passive radiators positioned on front and rear of the speaker enclosures reduce unwanted noise by redistributing frequencies captured within the speaker cabinet. Bass is controlled and less distorted.

Smart Networking Features

Wireless Music Streaming with Apple Airplay

Apple Airplay lets you stream music from the iTunes library of your iPad/iPhone/iPod touch or PC/Mac to your audio system and enjoy it anywhere in your home within your Wi-Fi network range. The music is streamed as lossless data, so there is no additional compression to cause loss of sound quality.

A wireless LAN environment is required.

Wireless Music Streaming with Bluetooth

Enjoy music streamed wirelessly to this Panasonic model via Bluetooth. Any Bluetooth equipped device (PC/smartphone etc.) can be paired allowing you to enjoy great sound quality through the powerful system speakers.

Bluetooth Re-mastering

Bluetooth offers a simple wireless way to stream music from one device to another. However, during transmission the music data is compressed, resulting in loss of sound quality. Panasonic's Bluetooth re-mastering takes the treble sounds that are lost during compression and recording and compensates the data, resulting in higher quality playback.

Panasonic Music Streaming App

An easy way to control your music playback is by installing the Panasonic Music Streaming App. It allows you to play music via your Home Network to your speaker device no matter what type of streaming technology is required. Whether it's DLNA, Apple Airplay or Bluetooth, the app selects the appropriate method without you having to worry. Smartphone or tablet, PC or NAS drive, just launch the App and choose the music. Finally, select your audio product and away you go, great sounds in any room with minimal effort.

Remote Control App for iPhone

By installing Panasonic's free Remote Control App onto your iPhone or iPod touch, you can easily operate your device by simply tapping and flicking on your touch screen. In addition to replicating the remote control functions, you can also adjust the equalizer and other sound settings.

Added Value Features

Direct Digital Dock for iPhone 5 and 5th Generation iPod Touch

Most iPod docking systems convert the digital audio playback to analogue which can result in loss of data and introduce unwanted noise. The digital dock on Panasonic systems however, maintains the digital signal to the amplifier resulting in a pure and accurate sound reproduction. It is equipped with the Apple Lightning Connector suitable for the iPhone 5 and iPod.

Power Sliding Door with Auto Sliding Dock

In addition to the motorised sliding door Panasonic have included an auto sliding digital dock. This improves the slim, stylish appearance and makes it easier for docking and undocking the latest iPod and iPhone models.

MP3 Playback from USB Memory Stick or CD

The MP3 compression system means that you can compile hundreds of songs in your own favourite playlist. MP3 music tracks that are burnt to CD or copied to USB memory stick can be played back directly with this Panasonic player so that you are no longer tied to a pre-recorded music collection.

USB Port for Music Playback or Charging

For added convenience you can play back music or even charge older generation Apple devices or other manufacturer's smartphones or digital music players via the built-in USB port.

MP3 playback and/or charging function is not guaranteed with all USB devices.

Wall Mountable

The slim body of this compact audio system makes it ideal for setting it onto a shallow shelf or, even better, mounting it to a wall. Wall mounting brackets and screws are included in the box.

Very attractive unit.Plays CDs well. However the radio DAB and FM reception is poor on the unit we received. This may be due to the fact that the ariel supplied did not fit securely in the socket on the rear of the machine. The DAB signal was distorted and lost when the ariel was moved only slightly and we could only receive two FM stations despite moving the unit around the room.It has been returned for a refund.

Does everything that it promised and whereas I have never been able to get a DAB reception with any previous device I connected the wire aerial that came with the unit and picked up more than 10 station on the first search, including the local BBC radio station which I have trouble receiving in the car. Works great over wifi from my computer so I can change tracks while sitting next door working on the computer and decent sound so I can keep the levels right so they reach me in my room without disturbing the rest of the house. Setup of wifi and bluetooth were really easy so the wife is happy that she can use her android phone or tablet to control it when I am out of the house or use my Iphone if I am in and she wants to listen to some of my music. I am extremely happy with the unit, the wife is extremely happy with the look and sound of the unit, which makes me even happier with it. Excellent product.

To get the best out of this unit it needs good reception of a) your Apple TV unit, b) your Wi-Fi unit, and c) DAB / FM. I've struggled with all of this, but this also true of, say, printers I've networked wirelessly (ok, not the radio bit!).
Panasonic and their instructions assume you have got AirPlay up and running OK. There's a few issues to note about this on the internet. For us, the problem seemed to be that the Apple TV unit was initially set to a US time zone - even though it set to correct this automatically. Once this was manually set to London it decided to work. That took a while to work out.
The HC58 now does all it says it should. 5 Stars as I wouldn't want to put anyone off buying this. It might not work first time, but persevere. Beware that you do not (or at least we do not) see 'HC58' (as per Panasonic's helpful instructions) as the speaker connection option via AirPlay - you see Apple TV. Selecting that option connects to HC58.
Note: we bought the Apple TV unit at the same time which added to the confusion as to where the connection problem was. With hindsight, we should have got the Apple TV unit working before trying to connect up the HC58.
