The Panasonic SC-HC55DB Compact Stereo System is a top of the range compact hi-fi system that is the epitomy of cool . Even more stylish, lighter and more power efficient than the SC-HC55DB, the SC-HC55DB, also has a fantastic new USB slot so you can easily play your own MP3 files. The styling includes chromed control buttons, and is a real step up from the SC-HC55DB.
It is fully compatible with iPhone/IPod has an integrated CD player and iPod dock which sits behind the front automated shutter (operated by touch-free sensor) and a DAB radio for ultra-clear reception. It can connect to any bluetooth MP3 player wirelessly, allowing you to play your music from your iPhone/iPod Touch etc., without a need for physical connection. You can also listen to internet radio by downloading the Panasonic vTuner to your iPhone/iPod Touch from the iTunes store (additional cost).
Not only this, but this system throws out an impressive 40W of sound output, which for such a compact system, only 69mm depth, is quite amazing. The slim body of the SC-HC55DB makes it ideal for sitting on a shallow shelf or it is now even easier to mount on the wall.

I bought this product as the music and radio source for our brand new kitchen. Typically for Panasonic, build quality and finish is excellent, and the range of features for the price makes this unit great value for money. I also bought the Internet Radio app for the iPhone and this works brilliantly, even via the remote control. I especially like the dark window on the docking section that when closed, makes your iPod or (in my case) iPhone look like a screen that is part of the system - a clever design touch.
Sound quality is perfectly okay but not better - you simply cannot expect too much from flat plane speakers, especially of this size.
The only downside is the DAB and FM reception. The supplied aerial is simply not good enough and is the only part of the system that looks like a cheap, poorly implemented afterthought.It's untidy to use, barely boosts the signal and like all DAB aerials needs to be vertical rather than horizontal across a surface. Fortunately, I had a "car style" telescopic DAB aerial from another system going spare (complete with suction cup base), and this worked beautifully. I now have all the DAB stations in my area (Reading) - FM reception is still poor however, but since I harldy listen to FM stations, it's not an issue for me.
Overall, a good bit of kit and great value - as long as you're aware of the DAB reception issue beforehand.

Great product, CD works fine, iPod dock works well, bluetooth brilliant but DAB radio... here lies the flaw, very fiddly 'f' connector to attach to and even then very poor signal via supplied loose wire aerial.
Bought a very small telescopic aerial from Maplin (the only one they had) - it made little difference, very disappointed.
Have used cheaper DAB radios and a Pure radio in same location with much bigger standard fit telescopic aerials and they have worked well, so I feel this is a real let down which is surprising for a Panasonic product of which I am a fan usually.
The scrolling display was a little disappointing too, quite basic in it's function and limited in the readout detail which is a shame compared to many other systems which at a glance show more information.
Sound quality quite good considering the slimness off the unit, but not quite up to 'Pure' standard I'm afraid.

Having read all the reviews I could find on several replacement "Hi-Fi" units I settled on the Panasonic and I think I have made the right choice. I was a bit worried about the DAB reception issues voiced in other feedback reports, but I looked at the BBC web site and determined that the DAB signal here (West of Norwich - Norfolk) should be adequate (I have a standalone DAB radio and that seems to pick up signals OK). So, I took the plunge and ordered one. I found it easy to set up and the instructions (once you get used to Panasonics way of presenting them) were straight forward and written in "correct" English.! The amount of "personal adjustment" to select all the FM/DAB radio stations is excellent and the CD playback plus all the normal CD Disc operations (Skip, shuffle, programme tracks etc.) were all there.! I have yet to play the ipod options (not yet owning one, but my son does and he will try it out for me I'm sure.!) and try the USB options but I have full confidence that they will work OK as well - So far, so good.! Recommend this to anybody who is thinking or needs to replace their mini type Hi-Fi's. (Amazon was the best price I could find with fast/reliable delivery - I used the Next Day option - brilliant..!)

This is a sleek piece of kit. I love the sliding doors to access the Ipod and CD transports. The sound is pretty good, although not hi-fi quality. It has a nice remote control. But I do have a few moans. Once the Ipod is attached it is really awkward to remove it - I have to slide a small prong under it to lever it out. The Ariel contraption consists of a long wire with two ends (yes like a 1970s FM ariel) which even though I have them stretched apart blue tacked to my outside upstairs window I still get horrible intermittent clunk clanky interference on the DAB signal. I can't understand why it didn't come with a fitted telescopic ariel like my small PURE DAB radio which has great reception anywhere in my house when the Ariel is extended just about 12"-15". A shame, if not for the ariel I would have awarded it 5 stars.

The Micro System is a lovely looking item. The sound is good enough for me with plenty of volume. Only disappointment is the quality of the aerial which was useless (a piece of wire). Once we had sorted a good aerial connection the DAB is pretty awesome.

bought as a christmas present, set it up on the day and the DAB radio would not get a reception. I had two other DAB radios in the house all with good reception but wanted something with an ipod dock. Tried both aerials but could not get a decent reception and on most occassions could not get any stations when I attempted to tune the radio. Ended up sending it back.

The product is very impressive to look and operate, but the performance was not good. The DAB tuner failed to scan any DAB station. I have a less popular and less expensive DAB radio that could tune a lot of stations in the same place of my house. I had to return this product and got the refund from Amazon.
