I had the previous model to this, the SC-HC3DB, which went wrong after six months and I was given my money back. I replaced it with the latest model, the SC-HC30DB.

Although the units look almost identical the new model's radio is apalling. On both FM and DAB I could not get decent reception.

Initially I thought it was a fault as the old model was fine in exactly the same location with the same aerial so sent it back to Amazon for a replacement. Unfortunately the replacement was exactly the same, so it too has gone back.

So, in conclusion if you have a strong radio signal then you'll probably love this unit. Otherwise leave well alone.

Assuming you have a good signal or don't care about the radio then I don't reckon you will find (IMO) a more aesthetically pleasing, good sounding iPOD dock which will sit neatly on a window cill or shelf.
Even the remote is really well laid out and very intuitive. I personally think it sounds as good as the Bose units at well over twice the price, and they don't look as nice or have a radio/CD.

I have now bought the old model second hand on Ebay and am glad to say it works fine.

Panasonic, I hope you are reading this; I'm not the only person who thinks the radio on this unit is poor.

Oh and finally, Amazon's customer service deserves a mention they are just brilliant.

I've had this for about 4 days now and am very pleased with it. It's stylish, functional and produces very good quality sound. OK, spend another £100 and you'll get even better sound but it's not worth doing in my opinion. The DAB radio works a treat with just the aerial wire dangling at the back.
Good things: Quality; Sound reproduction; Ease of use; Good looks; Lovely door slider that keeps iPod and CDs out of sight; Remote control operates all the functions.

A couple of very small grumbles: Don't install it too high, as the controls are on the top (having said that, the remote control will operate it anyway); The stored radio stations are in alphabetical order so if you want, for instance, Kiss FM. you have to scroll through the As, Bs, Cs etc to get there. There are 5 pre set Equalisers which might be limiting for some people, I would have preferred perhaps 8 pre sets.
These are minor niggles so please don't be put off....it's a good system.

I was put off for a long while by the negative reviews here, mainly about the radio. However, I have had Panasonic products in the past and all have been outstanding, so when I saw a special offer on this micro system I risked it and took the plunge - knowing, again from past experience, that Amazon would put things right if I finished up with a dud.

I'm so glad I did! I can't understand why so many people have had trouble with the DAB radio, not only on this model but on others in the same range. Maybe they have trouble with the tuning set-up, which is not the simplest, nor are the instructions as clear as they might be. But if you are half-way technically competent, you should not have a problem. My unit was working perfectly within ten minutes of getting it out of the box, using only the split-flexible-wire-dipole aerial supplied, pinned under the nearest inside windowsill edge to hide it (NOT pinned through the wire - just trapping the wire under the heads of drawing pins!). The aerial metal coupling to the radio does have to be screwed in VERY firmly - it's a bit stiff the last few turns - to ensure good contact. The DAB radio immediately pulled in more stations than I could count in a half hour and FM pulled in all BBC, local and Classic FM stations loud and clear, all with no interference or 'gobbling'. This in South Yorkshire, where hills complicate reception.

As an old (very) hifi amplifier and speaker enclosure builder, I am picky about sound reproduction. The sound from these two little paperback-sized flat speakers would have only been understood as black magic in the days when I was designing amplifiers!

I have had two of these now.. TWO because neither of them have worked on the radio function and both have now been returned.

Neither would pick up either DAB, nor FM radio, and I live in a town centre with an excellent reception on my two other DAB radios. I even took the 2nd replacement to Maplins to see if I was missing something crucial, they tried it with various of their aerials and it didn't work for them either. What a shame as the other functions worked fine and it's a nice piece of kit.

[a small caveat first: i haven't used the DAB radio on this product yet, so I can't comment on that - a few other reviews of this and similar products have been disappointed with DAB, but from reading those reviews it appears that a lot of the negative points come from poor DAB reception in their area.]

I bought this system a few weeks ago, after extensive searching on the web and in shops for suitable mini systems. I wanted a reasonably discrete system for my living room, one which I could plug my iPod into and play CDs from (radio wasn't a big deciding factor in my case). This Panasonic system (although admittedly not the cheapest) was by far the most appealing, especially with regard to hiding away the iPod dock - many of the other systems I looked at basically just had a iPod dock stuck on the top somewhere, which I didn't think looked very good.

The build quality is excellent - the sliding door which moves to reveal the iPod dock or CD tray is a great touch. Sound quality is very good, at least for a medium sized room like mine (to be honest, if you're looking for lots of power, you wouldn't go for a mini system in the first place!). You can navigate your iPod menus using the systems remote, and your iPod is charged when docked as well.

I've been very happy with this product so far. Amazon was about the cheapest place to get it, taking free delivery into account. It looks great, sounds great, and I'd highly recommend it.
