Incredible Surround Sound

Anti Jitter Digital Amp
Anti Jitter Digital Amp
3D Cinema Surround

Cinema Surround is a state-of-the-art Panasonic technology that simulates the sound stage of a real cinema. 3D Cinema Surround in the 2012 models provides authentic surround sound through a total of 30 real and virtual speakers. Sound is perceived as coming from the correct direction thanks to Panasonic’s proprietary direction perception control technology made possible by years of research. At last, surround sound matches the immersive effect of 3D images.

Anti-Jitter Digital Amplifier

Based on the phenomenal MASH noise shaping technology used for many years in Panasonic products, the Anti-Jitter Digital Amplifier markedly reduces jitter and distortion that can affect audio clarity, producing pure brilliant sound.

Digital Audio Connection for iPod/iPhone

Panasonic pioneered the iPod Dock for music systems, and now stay one step ahead by introducing a direct digital connection. Most docking systems convert the digital audio playback to analogue which can result in loss of data and introduce unwanted noise. The Digital Dock on Panasonic systems however, maintain the digital signal to the amplifier resulting in a pure and accurate sound reproduction.

Bamboo Speaker
Bamboo Speaker
Bamboo Charcoal Speaker Cone

Bamboo is a sustainable material that has great properties for clear audio reproduction when used to replace conventional speaker cone material. By carbonising the bamboo fibres to charcoal, this makes a lighter material that means faster response speed and reduced resonance.

Anti-Distortion Speaker

The Anti-Distortion speaker cone structure features an uneven thickness for the rear surface of the speaker cone. This inspired moulded pattern manufacturing process serves to suppress resonance, producing clear sound and minimising unwanted noise.

Down Firing Subwoofer

The Down Firing Subwoofer achieves powerful bass by releasing the sound downward from the speaker unit and port, and utilising the sound reflected from the floor or other surface.

Awe-inspiring 3D and Outstanding picture quality

The True to Cinema Picture Concept

3D from the heart of Hollywood - Since 1992, Panasonic has maintained a close working relationship with the top Hollywood film studios. Establishing Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory on the site of Universal Studios, this state of the art research and development centre began working on the Telecine and encoding process for the development of DVD. It continues to this day but has evolved in to one of the key encoding and authoring houses for Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray. These activities have enabled PHL to accumulate the know-how necessary to faithfully reproduce original movie images on Blu-ray discs and have led to the development of the advanced imaging processors and chip-sets used in our range of DVD and Blu-ray players. The results are clear to see in our award winning models that achieve truly beautiful images with even more realism, depth and texture.

2D-3D
2D-3D
2D to 3D Conversion

Watch 2D videos in 3D, even movies streamed "On Demand" - Of course it's going to take time to build your collection of 3D movies. So Panasonic offer 2D-3D Conversion that enables conversion of regular 2D DVDs and Blu-ray Discs into 3D images with natural depth perception. Watch your prized DVD movie collection in 3D for even greater viewing enjoyment. New for 2012, models can also convert content from the on-line VIERA Connect services, including Video-on-Demand, into 3D.

Viera Connect
Viera Connect

Smart TV and Networking

Panasonic VIERA Connect

A whole host of on-line entertainment delivered to your TV - Panasonic upgraded its home AV online platform from VIERA CAST to VIERA Connect in Autumn 2011. By connecting this device to your Broadband router, you can access a wide range of internet services such as catch-up TV, sports news, weather info, movies-on-demand and games. Viera Connect not only offers users greater convenience but greatly enhances enjoyment as well. Now, you can enjoy an even wider variety of Internet content with family and friends from the comfort of your living room.

DLNA - Enjoy Music, Video or Photo contents stored on your PC in another room

The Digital Living Network Alliance was set up by a number of software and hardware manufacturers to enable products to communicate with one another in a home network. DLNA-certified Blu-ray Disc™ Players and Home Cinema Systems can share or stream content stored on other DLNA-certified products. Share and enjoy digital photos (JPEG), music (MP3, WMA) and videos (AVCHD, WMV) on a Windows 7 PC, for example, by simply connecting to a home network (LAN) either wired or wirelessly. You can even install a special app on your iPhone or i.Pad and use it to send files to your Blu-ray device. You can access, browse and view compatible media stored on the other DLNA device while in another room, without having to worry about shuffling discs or running long cables.

Smartphone Remote Control

Download the Panasonic remote control apps for free and turn your iPhone or compatible Android device into a versatile remote. By installing the Panasonic remote control apps onto your smartphone, you can easily operate your Blu-ray Disc Players and Home Theatre Systems by tapping and swiping the touch display.

  • iPhone Remote Control App must be downloaded from the App Store (iTunes Store).
  • For this function, a wireless LAN environment is required.
  • System Requirements: iPod touch 3rd generation or later, iPhone 3GS or later, iOS version 4.2 or later.
  • External HDD Playback

New for 2012, the Blu-ray Disc Players and Home Theatre Systems are compatible with external hard disk drives, so you can enjoy music (FLAC, MP3), photos (JPEG, MPO), and camcorder video content (AVCHD, MP4) archived on an external HDD. Connection is via USB and most drives are compatible, even the latest NTFS (New Technology File System) format. • Playback is not possible with some external hard disk drives.

    Wi-Fi Built-in

A Wi-Fi system is built right into the main unit so you can enjoy VIERA Connect, BD-Live content and downloadable firmware updates without having to connect the Blu-ray Disc Players and Home Theatre Systems with a LAN cable or use a wireless LAN adaptor. A wireless LAN environment is required.

    Ease to Use

    VIERA Link

Easy operation with a single remote control - VIERA Link lets you operate a Blu-ray Disc player or a Home Cinema System with a single VIERA TV remote control. Connection is made via HDMI cable enabling multiple Panasonic products to communicate with one another. With VIERA Link there's no more need to switch between multiple remote controls.

    HDMI Input x 2

Two HDMI inputs are equipped on the main unit. This enables set top boxes, game consoles, and other digital devices to be connected via HDMI to easily configure a 5.1-channel surround system. The Standby Pass Through function also conveniently allows signals from devices connected to the home cinema system to go to the TV even when the home cinema is turned off.

    Wireless Ready Rear Speaker

With a purchase of the optional SH-FX71 digital wireless transmitter, the rear speakers can operate without a wired connection from the main unit. The wireless system transmits audio signals by radio waves, so there's no need to run speaker cables across the floor to the back of the room.

5.0 out of 5 stars VFM one box solution 26 Jun 2012
    By Mod FD
Bought this to replace a still adequate Sony IAS system to upgrade to blu-ray and reduce the size of the sub-woofer which was a downside of golf ball size speeakers.
Got this linked to a Panny 42" GT30 plasma TV which has a great picture and with a blu-ray through the BTT490, the picture is simply stunning..........we don't know anyone else with a better picture on their TV.
Got the box linked with a Chord hdmi cable and a QED optical audio in. Sound is better than my old Sony but nothing like full size speakers and a separate surround amp etc which is bigger, clumsy and no doubt more expensive. So for its type and price, this is a great compromise (for the wife, I add!). 1000W also adds quite a punch........haven't tried the 25 virtual surround sound option yet. 5.1 output seems pretty good.
Plugging into an ethernet connection (via a powerline) and you get great speed and easy system update. The set up was easy inc balancing the speaker outputs and the Viera link/connect system works fantastically well with the Panny TV.
The Panasonic apps may be limited but with Sky HD anytime+, I'm not too fussed. With this box, the TV and sky all needing internet I've just invested in a switch box from Amazon so swapping between sources won't need cable swaps anymore.
NB If you have a large room checkout the cable length limits for the rear speakers and the £70 odd wireless upgrade but then again with a bigger room you may be better off with bigger speakers anyway. Shortcutting the cables across the room under a carpet works of course but that won't work with wooden floors etc.

£350 well spent and ticks all the boxes..............want better pictures.......unlikely from what I've seen.
Want better sound, well spend more and gain more clutter etc I guess....but I'm happy with this thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Panasonic Surround Sound 6 Aug 2012

I had been looking for a Blue Ray Cinema Surround Sound system for quite some time, Panasonic had all the features that I wanted, but I was not prepared to pay the Silly Money they were asking, I also wanted Panasonic as It would match the TV we have and the DVD Recorder and hopefulkly all work in harmony.
As a Lay man I found a certain amount of difficulty setting the system up, there was quite a lot of initials used which they assumed you would know what they were (Which I did Not) All the features on this system are first rate, the only one I have yet to set up is the VHF radio. which will probably need a better ariel, than the piece of wire that came with the systemPanasonic SC-BTT490EBK Full HD 3D 5.1ch Blu-ray Home Cinema System (New for 2012)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic picture and sound quality 8 Aug 2012

I had recently purchased a Samsung ES8000 55'' TV and was looking for a suitable upgrade to my Harmon Kardon AVR130 but one that did not cost the earth. After a lot of research, I was undecided between Panasonic SC-BTT775, Panasonic SC-BTT370 and Panasonic SC-BTT490. The 490 sat neatly in the middle of the other two with all the features of the 775 without the bulk it has to offer, and the tallboy frnt speakers which were missing in the 370. Setting it up was easy and I'm extremely pleased with the sound quality and even more so with the picture quality. The 2D to 3D switch gives you a fabulous viewing experience and helps you get a lot more out of your 3D TV (Given that there is only one 3D TV channel at the moment!). I bought the Wireless speaker rear kit along with this model and my only complaint is the length of the speaker wires supplied with it. I still feel that its a good investment though as it takes away having to draw wires all across the living room. You do need wires to connect the rear speakers to the wireless hub though - so not entirely wireless and something one needs to be aware of. All in all a brilliant buy for the money, very easy on the eye and fantastic quality sound and picture.

    4.0 out of 5 stars A few issues 5 Dec 2012

Got this system a couple weeks ago now to go with the Panasonic telly ( 50" ).
Pretty happy with it. Would have liked a browser ability instead of VERY limited internet access allowed.
The problem I have found and not been able to resolve, Forget Panasonic help line by phone or email no response despite manageing to get through on phone promised me they would get back with a response within 24 hours nothing.

Problem one centre speaker will work on sound test only but not any other time From TV etc.

Radio doesnt show any RDS info Previous Sony Did this on same ariel set-up.

Rather a fuss to get ARC setup when switching on TV/sound system so TV speakers are turned down.

Any help with centre speaker would be greatly appreciated.

Wow this is fantastic! I bought this after seeing it on the gadget show, they were right you do sound like you are right in the middle of the action the sound is so detailed. The picture is crisp and beautiful on bluray even my old DVD's have been given a polish played on this and the 3d is astounding I love this so much.
if there is anything I can find wrong it's that there is no eject button on the remote, but I suppose you have to get up to put the disc in anyway and you just press play and the tray goes in, so not really a problem just seems strange to not have it on a remote!
