Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Panasonic HJE450 earphones

Ergo Fit Ear Canal Headphones

These stylish canal type inside-phones offer excellent sound reproduction and consistent performance. With step up technologies and a variety of colours this earphone is an ideal gift.

Panasonic HJE450 earphones

ErgoFit

The custom super slim ErgoFit design offers ultimate comfort and secure hold, blocking out unwanted background noise so you can enjoy your music wherever you are. The added benefit of ErgoFit technology is that users avoid discomfort during long periods of use, a common complaint with other designs.

Acoustic Precision Control

The HJE450 features Panasonic's Acoustic Precision Control (APC). APC reproduces the perfect combination of treble, mid and bass sound frequencies, which is ideal for listening to music as it was intended.

Rigid Diaphragm

Panasonic created this rigid diaphragm to greatly improve sound response and to reduce resonance compared with standard diaphragms.

Panasonic HJE450 earphones

Virtual Cavity Technology

The new slim design with virtual cavity technology offers a compact build for ease of transport and use. The HJE450’s virtual cavity also creates well-balanced sound by adjusting the inside air pressure. The model does this seamlessly so the user just hears great sound quality.

Anti Touch Noise Slider

The newly adapted necklace style cord reduces noise effectively when attached around the neck. This works by reducing any interference that maybe caused when using the headphones on the move.

Bringing together great sound and aesthetics makes the HJE450 ideal for those who do not want to compromise on either fashion or performance.

A few years ago I bought a pair of Panasonic RP-HJE170 earphones and have loved them ever since, but the earbuds have worn out and as a budding audiophile I decided to move up a stage in quality (not least because my beloved 170s are no longer produced). So I bought a pair of 450Es, trusting that if Panasonic made their starter earphones so well, these would be even better.

The fit is comfortable, the adjustable earbuds doing a lovely job. You won't bug anyone around you with your music because there's hardly any sound leakage - even at full volume. The slider thingy on the cable is quite slippery, if that matters.

There's no doubt that the sound is sharp and detailed with a good sense of depth. But while my 170s made music sound like it was playing live in my brain, the 450Es make it feel a bit like I'm hearing the music playing through the wall from a pub nextdoor. The bass tones are too high and the mid-tones are too low; choirs (tested using the film scores of John Williams) and higher female singers (Ellie Goulding) are drowned out, male singers sound as if their mouths were pressed right against the microphones when they were recorded(Badly Drawn Boy). Orchestras sound cumbersome, lacking the rich, energetic mixture of the juicy mid-tones and missing emphasis from what what would otherwise be a passable treble ("Rhapsody in Blue" by Gershwin). That said, the bass isn't overpowering and won't give you any headaches. To use another analogy: my 170s were like listening to honey while the 450Es are like listening to treacle. Golden syrup would count as perfection, but given the alternatives I'll take honey. The box says "Acoustic Precision Control", but the simple fact is that they got it wrong.

I could have given the 450Es three stars because their performance on rock and grunge sounds was pretty good (The Cardigans sounded fantastic) but, for me, if you can't make everything sound good then why bother? So the 450Es only get 2 stars.

Having aquired several earphones of various makes over several years, most of which do not stay in my ears i bought these. Not only is the sound quality excellant but the fit in the ear canal is perfect, they stay in even when moving about. I think this is mainly due to the ear bud being slightly offset from the centre of the moulding. I cant recomend them highly enough. Bryan

Ignore the supposed RRP, these are cheap headphones and the sound quality matches the price. Vocals and treble sound far too harsh and the bass is quite thin - this is despite the fact that they seem to fit my ears quite well. Some of this can be overcome with equalizer settings but this is not always practical.

On the plus side, they are comfortable and do a good job of blocking out external noise.

I have a pair of Philips headphones which are a similar style and cost about the same but sound significantly better.

Cheap and cheerful, good value for money. Different shape to normal ear buds, they fit me well. Reasonable quality sound, if you find conventionally shaped ear buds uncomfortable I suggest giving them a shot.

Great headphones fits into ear without falling out. Music reproduction is first class. I've tried other leading makes but these are the best by far. Highly recommended.

These are great headphones, Great sound and they are truly noise cancelling.
They do not fall out of the ear, even when running.
They have a unique behind the neck wearing design that is optional and I prefer it. (Thats why I bought these in the 1st place)
    Its quite long at 1.2m

I can't fault these headphones. The sound quality is superb and I really like the anti touch noise slider. The only slight gripe is that when tangled they can be annoying to unravel.
