I bought these earphones after reading a number of good reviews on amazon.com (US). Must say I was very pleasantly surprised. Noise cancellation was better than I expected. Flew round the world recently (~48 hours flying time) and battery is still going strong. In the past I have found the headphones supplied on the plane can be uncomfortable for extended periods (particularly as I wear glasses) but had no such problems with these. I even kept them on when I was sleeping. This is my first pair of noise cancelling earphones so I can't compare with other makes/models, but I feel these are very good value for money.

Please note that these headphones reduce low frequency sound only, so talking, external radio etc. will barely sound different (I didn't realise this before I bought them).

The ear pieces are quite comfortable, although strange to push them so far into you ear.

The low frequency reduction is quite good, the packaging quotes 88%.

The quality of sound when using them to listen to music is fair. I compared them to my 20 year old in ear walkman headphones and the old set had much better sound quality.

You never know how quiet it really is until you put on the earphones and turn it on. Its like a "cone of silence".

How does it rate? Well, it does work. I've put it on at home with a noisy aquarium pump behind me and it blocks out most of the noise. On a train to work, it cuts off most of the air-condition and low frequency noise. The feeling when turning it on is like having a cone of silence lowered over your head. Its amazing. We just don't realise how much noise is around us.

Comfortable: Its quite comfortable. You need to push it into your ear and it sits there comfortably. Just make sure that it seals your ears properly.

Frequency response: Its so so. One of the reasons that I'm not giving it 5 stars. Since I listen mainly to speech and audio books, I'm happy with the performance but for those who are into hifi music, I don't think that its that good.

Conclusion: For the price and if you listen mainly to audio books, its good. If you are into hifi music, it may not suite you.

Unlike the other reviewers I am quite pleased with the headphones. I recently used them on a holiday to Thailand & the reduction in noise on the 10 hour plane tip each way was very helpful. Also leaving them switched on whilst the MP4 player was switched off helped me to get more sleep than usual. I used them on both plane rides + regularly during the holiday on a single battery - so battery life is not much of an issue - though I do think they should have put a switch on the device to bypass the circuitry if the battery goes flat.

Well, what do you need to know other than these headphones do an excellent job of reducing distracting background noise of the street, traffic and when on public transport.

I wear them on my way to work by bus and then on foot through my city and back home again. They block out enough noise to allow the volume to be reduced to safer levels than I had on my previous Sony ear plug (which were non-noise reducing).

The sound quality is excellent (I use these with the superb Sony NWZ-S639F MP4 player).

The plugs fit very nicely (there are three different size rubber fittings) and are comfortable.

A unit, carrying a single battery, will fit neatly to the inside pocket of your suit jacket - the wire is not long enough for this unit to go in a trouser pocket however - hence the 4 stars. The unit itself has a useful volume slider that allows you to quickly lower the volume if someone needs to speak to you, wihtout you having to dig out your player, unlock it, and turn the volume down. This slider is not your overall volume control however as it has a small volume range - thereby reducing the risk of accidently putting the volume far too high.

To conclude: the product has a quality feel and comes highly recommended for everyday wear when walking through the street or to avoid particularly in my case the noise eminating from those annoying kids of today on the public bus on the way to work!

The NR ability of these plugs keeps annoying noise from kids down to a beautiful minimum! Peace and tranquility is possible on public transport after all - except for the fact that First bus drivers remain incapable of providing you with that smooth journey - some things even these plugs cannot change!

I bought these to reduce noise on a transatlantic flight. I had previously tried to watch a film on my iPad inflight only to discover that the stock Apple headphones simply were not loud enough for the quiet bits of the film (or indeed some of the less quiet bits). The Panasonic earphones killed the background noise and allowed me to hear even the quiet bits without turning the volume up.

The only downside is the length of lead from the ear pieces to the control unit - I found it was too short to clip the control unit to my belt and I was forced to try and clip it to something higher up. As I wear t-shirts a lot this is somewhat of a nuisance.

Had the lead been longer this would have been a five-star review. I found the environment the headphones created was so immersive that I was lost in the film and unaware of the world around me. Having said that, like all noise cancelling earphones, you will still hear higher frequency noise such as people speaking to you, however the earphones make it possible to tune out.

I would be happy to recommend these to anybody travelling in a train or by plane who wants to reduce the background noise.
