The new MC-UL596 is the latest addition to the Eco-Max vacuum cleaner range which currently includes the MC-UL594 and MC-UL592. The Eco-Max motor in our range of upright bagless vacuum cleaners uses energy more efficiently to deliver unrivalled suction power – and makes cleaning even stubborn messes effortless. Panasonic's revolutionary Eco Max motor saves you time and effort by picking up more dirt and dust whilst using power far more efficiently. The motor has a 3D inducer fan which generates superior suction power, and a dynamic air stream for excellent cleaning, producing outstanding results with less energy. A unique filter refresher system ensures the filter works effectively for longer. Panasonic vacuum cleaners use 'HEPA' filters which have a micro-thin membrane to trap dust and dirt on the surface, while allowing air to pass through more efficiently. This reduces the chances of clogging and offers superior cleaning and durability to normal filters. The upright vacuum cleaners have a fully reclining body, making it easy to vacuum under beds and furniture - so no more crouching down on all fours to clean under the sofa - simply tilt the vacuum cleaner back and glide over the floor into the tightest of spaces. Over cleaning one area of carpet can be harmful to the fibres. The auto beater bar stop immediately cuts out the nozzle motor when the cleaner is in the upright position to save energy and remove any chance of damage to your carpet. With a longer hose, you can reach further without having to move the vacuum cleaner's main body. So when you're cleaning a corner of the room or up the staircase, you can do so more easily. In fact, our hose will stretch to over 13 stairs - which makes cleaning the whole house effortless. Bought this as a replacement for our old Panasonic vacuum cleaner which still works but wouldn't disgorge all of the cable - will now be used for car cleaning duties.
I looked long and hard before buying the MC-UL596, considering all makes including Dyson. What a fantastic product and, from Pana-Stores, a fantastic price (£120)! My wife and I couldn't believe the amount of dirt and dog hair that it picked up on the first couple of uses. It has left the carpets looking cleaner and feeling newer as it lifted the pile that had been flattened over the years. You will find that you empty it a lot on first use but this is only due its efficiency and the fact that you can see the dirt and fur/fluff.
The turbo brush works well on upholstery and stair carpets. The MC-L596 come with an extra attachment for hard floor cleaning which doesn't store on the machine itself but this doesn't cause us any problems. The only thing I do miss is the retractable cable of the old machine, but at least it can't jam!
The remarks of one reviewer regarding filter costs are not entirely accurate. The top filter does not need replacing often provided you keep it clean as per the instructions and, when you do need to replace, the filter can be obtained separately from the top cannister for considerably less than the £30+ figure quoted in that review. I know Dyson filters can be washed but the cost of the machines is prohibitive. Also, strictly speaking, the Dyson HEPA filters do not appear to meet the full HEPA standard.
As far as weight is concerned, yes, it is heavy but no heavier than our old Panasonic and, very importantly, it has a carrying handle that balances the machine when lifted, reducing the strain considerably. Also, when you use the extension hose, it doesn't fall over.
I can thoroughly recommend it.

This cleaner is splendid. Everything is right and in the right place. All the attachments I'd want are included and most are attached to the machine and ready to hand. My house hasn't been this clean for many a year.
The machine is a beast - very sturdy and nothing looks cheap and breakable - and I am hard on my machines!
The 'bag' is capacious and easy to empty.
The expanda-pipe is brilliant and the machine does not fall over when you use it.
The electric lead is generous.
The edge to edge is brilliant.
It's not too noisy.
It is a little heavy but does have a well placed handle so I can manage it well enough.
So far I love it and the house looks great. I've done all edges, curtains, stairs and the nooks and crannies that have been ignored for a long time, and my comfy chairs!

Just bought this vac for my mother after owning a 594 model myself. Its sturdy, has excellent pick-up,is easy to dismantle/clean, not as heavy as some others (ie the Vax Mach7 which I threw away after only 3 months)and is reasonably quiet. It does not require new filters as often as is stated in other reviews as the main filter is easily removed and cleaned in a soapy sink! I have owned Dysons and Vaxs in the past and they were good while they lasted but they didnt last long. I have three dogs so you can imagine the mess that the vac has to regularly cope with. This is the best vac I've owned and its not all that expensive compared to some. Recommended!
