Product Description

Panasonic The DMC-FS16 features a 28mm wide-angle 4x optical zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm camera equivalent: 28-112mm). The 28mm wide-angle lens lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective. The 4x optical zoom lens captures beautiful shots of people or landscapes with 14.1-megapixel resolution.

The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. Apart from the digital image correction, the MEGA O.I.S. corrects a jolt of light axis by shifting the O.I.S. lens unit to offset it. Thus the image is not affected digitally nor deteriorated at all. You get clear, sharp images in exchange for nothing. The MEGA O.I.S. lets you shoot in dimly lit rooms or evening illumination to preserve the mood, and works for macro shots and zoom shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake.

The DMC-FS16 can record motion pictures in high-definition (1,280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG format). The DMC-FS16 can also upload movies onto YouTube, and photos onto Facebook. All you have to do is checkmark photos and movies you want to share and connect the camera or SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card to a computer. Uploading automatically starts just by following the guidance. With operation this easy, you can instantly share your photos and movies with your family and friends all over the world.

After my old Lumix DMC-FX150 broke, I decided to replace it with a relatively cheap Lumix camera, having had a good experience with that one. I decide on this camera, due to the good reviews by other people, as well as its cheap price tag. And I must say, I was not disappointed.

I've only had the camera a relatively short time, and haven't really had a chance to play with all the settings yet, but from what I've seen so far it's a good camera that takes good quality pictures. It has a range of photo settings that can be adjusted to a certain extent, perfect for the amateur photographer like myself, as well as pre-made settings for beginners.

It has a re-chargable lithium battery, and comes with the charger for this, which I prefer as it saves me having to buy batteries all the time to replace it! Although I know some people prefer to be able to change the batteries on the go, so it all depends on your own preference I feel. But the battery lasts quite a long time (depending on usage obviously) so I have never felt this has impacted me significantly.

The camera does not come with any kind of SD memory card, which could be an issue if this is your first camera, however I used my SD card from my old camera which was fine. The camera does have a very small built-in memory itself, which would be okay for a couple of photos, but not any more than that.

It's very lightweight and slim in size, which makes it easy to slip in to my pocket if I wanted to, which was a slight problem with my previous Lumix.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this camera so far! High quality product for a good price. Definately one I'd recommend!

Was concerned at the lack of reviews on here but found good pro reviews elsewhere so went for it. Best camera ive had for a novice. Takes gret picures and the movie mode is also good. I went for this camera because I didnt want to use AA batteries. If you want an easy camera that takes good pics this is one to look at, I found it hard to take blurry pics ( Wanted to see if I could, so shows the technolohy works) and ive had no red eye issues. Very Happy I bought it.

Unbeatable point and shoot camera that can do much more.Great size for carrying about and great pictures from straight out of the box on fully auto.
Very good price and worth serious consideration if you want good 'snaps' without having to learn a full range of photography skills.
    Highly recommended.

I have only had the camera for a couple of days but initial impressions are very good.

I decided to replace my old Fuji Finepix A202 which is very basic and bulky by current standards. I am only an occasional picture taker so did not wish to spend a fortune and was baffled by the number of different models and range of features on offer. I must have spent eight hours plus reading both professional and user reviews and was still baffled.

Eventually I plumped for the FS 16 on the basis of size and the good reviews for its image stabilization system.

    Pro's
    Size and "feels" substantial

Image stabilization system is very good

Once you get used to the menu logic, configuration and operation is straightforward

No qualms on image quality, HD movie is just.....wow

    Con's
Battery cannot be charged in situ, it has to be removed from the camera and charged in a remote unit. I am concerned that the battery door seems rather flimsy and that it may prove vulnerable with regular use.

Image protection is too good. I have been unable to find any way to delete camera images via my pc when connected to the camera. Images have to either deleted using the cameras menu system or by removing the SD card from the camera, inserting it into the pc card reader and then deleting them from the card. Again this operation involves further use of the battery door.

I realise that the Pro's are "real" whilst the Con's are perceived and I hope my concerns prove unfounded.

In conclusion, I am very pleased with the camera, overall, the quality of the pictures and the price - I may even take more pictures now I can just tuck it in my top pocket.

A great camera especially for simple instant tourist pics. Fits (and survives) in the pocket, doesn't need re-charging too often and when it does it doesn't take long. Takes excellent pictures over a wider range of conditions of distance and light than e.g. the RICOH Caplio R1V of 5 years ago and all the menus are easy to follow with further explanations in little 'on-screen' trails. Only criticisms so far are the on/off switch is a bit fiddly but seems robust enough and the factory setting is to take just a few pics (of enormous size) on the memory available. The little set-up booklet doesn't tell you to adjust the picture size to get the usual 300-400. A bit of a puzzle until the penny drops. Thoroughly recommended.

Love this camera - small in size but big in product. Easy to use, love the anti-shake facility and intelligence, zoom good, hardly any time between taking shot and result. Overall recommended.
