It comprehends MEGA O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) for hand-shake, Intelligent ISO Control for subject movement, Face detection and Intelligent Scene Selector. The dedicated iA button on the top of the camera lets you enter the iA mode directly. Once you enter iA mode, these multi-capable functions happen automatically, so you can shoot without the bother of adjusting settings every time conditions change. You can enjoy easy, trouble-free shooting in any situation and get the satisfaction that comes with capturing clear, beautiful images.

4x Optical Zoom (35-140mm*1) Lens with Folded Optics to Fit in a Flat, Futuristic Design and 14.1-Megapixel High Resolution CCD. The DMC-FP3 features a high-quality 4x optical zoom Lumix DC Lens(35-140mm*1). The folded optics of the shaft guide method is adopted to secure the toughness of the lens unit. Comprising 11 elements and a prism unit in 10 groups, including an ED lens and 4 aspherical lenses with 7 aspherical surfaces, this advanced lens unit renders high resolution image corner to corner even adopting the folded optics.

Further, in 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 8.4x (294mm*1) by using the center part of the high resolution CCD.

The image- processing LSI, Venus Engine IV, features advanced signal processing technology for rendering high quality images. The multi-task image-processing engine Venus Engine IV supports a super-fast response time. The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.006 second. The camera's quick response makes it easier to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities together with the sonic speed AF(auto focus) that lets you lock on the subject minimum 0.33 second*3 and the short start-up time of approx. 0.96 second.

The Venus Engine IV also supports a High Sensitivity mode that lets the DMC-FP3/FP2/FP1 record at a setting of up to ISO 6400, sensitive enough to capture subjects in near-total darkness without using a flash.*4

Panasonic Lumix

The iA (Intelligent Auto) mode for making every photographer to be a good photographer
Panasonic incorporated the Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots. This mode is of course comes with the new FP3. The MEGA O.I.S. suppress hand-shake and the Intelligent ISO control prevents moving subject to be blurred by optimizing the shutter speed and ISO setting, to render sharp, clear images whatever the shooting situation is. Human faces are captured in focus and appropriate exposure with the Face Detection.Intelligent auto finds the optimum mode for every scene automatically

Unwanted red-eyes are digitally corrected and backlight compensation automatically activates if they happens. Intelligent Scene Selector, which automatically selects whichever of 6 scene modes -- Macro, Portrait, Scenery, Night Portrait, Night Scenery and newly added Sunset - that best suits the shooting situation. The Quick AF system allows the camera to keep focus on the subject while the camera is in recording mode even before without pressing a shutter button halfway, to get the best result out of a shutter chance because the focus is always near the subject and the AF time is minimized.

The user can activate all of these useful, convenient shooting-assist functions by simply pressing an dedicated iA button on the top of the camera. All these make the FP3 the ultimate, super-versatile automatic camera for capturing clear, beautiful, mistake-free photos with ease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use Panasonic Camera 22 Nov 2010
    Colour Name:Blue|Verified Purchase
I bought this for my sons birthday, as I already have a Panasonic Lumix camera. This again is a quality camera from Panasonic. It is very easy to use with it's touchscreen and has functions which simplify the scrolling that you have to do on the old style menus. The picture quality is great and the solid casing makes it feel well made. It is also small enough to stick in your pocket.

After a glowing review on Cameras.co.uk, I ordered the Panasonic DMC FP3 fully hoping for something that was at least a match for my old camera, a Casio Exilim. Within 30 minutes of trying out this item though, I'd printed out a refund slip and repacked it for prompt return via DHL.

In short, though I'm assured the quality of pictures and video is of superior quality, the touch screen interface I found to be one of the most clumsy and awkward I have ever set eyes on. There is no circular tilt-switch of the type that has been widely adopted as industry standard, and none of the basic key functionality that goes with it (such as holding down a key for fast advance, or for scrolling image pan in zoom display mode). Instead you are confronted with an ugly touch-screen display with arrows to navigate through options or to advance through images held in display mode.

The touch screen was clumsy and slow to respond, but most damning of all did not allow anything but a single click interface. In other words you could not just hold down the right-arrow key to quickly fast-forward through your images to one you are trying to find, you have to laboriously splat away at the touch-screen one image at a time.

This paucity of key function is even worse if you choose to zoom in on an existing image in display mode. Where standard navigation would allow you to quickly pan left, right, up and down using the rocker buttons on a standard interface, the same one-click touch-screen buttons allow you only to clumsily edge across the image a couple of pixels at a time.

"You mean you can't just use the touch-screen to 'drag' the zoomed image one way or the other?" I hear you ask.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite impressive for such a small camera 21 Mar 2012

This camera has a 3 inch touch controlled LCD screen, is easy to use and the picture quality is really good. I love the fact that the lens is tucked away. All you have to do is to slide the lens cover and it's on and ready to go. Apart from the touch controlled screen, it also captures High Definition movies and has image stabilisation. The 4x zoom can be boosted to a maximum of 8.4x zoom if you reduce the number of megapixels you are shooting at. I haven't had any problems with the touch controlled screen.
The battery life is good enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great camera for point and click 22 Sep 2010
    Colour Name:Blue|Verified Purchase
I haven't learned how to use this properly yet, but even so, using the point and click only, I have had great pictures. One of the best features is the complete lack of red-eye. The most disappointing thing is that my new Windows 7 PC refuses to recognise it (or any other USB device for that matter) and there is no driver available on the Panasonic site. However, the camera is lovely, tiny, easy to hold and use, and I look forward to having loads of fun with it as I learn all the features.
