Panasonic SZ3
Colour corrects the image to make your underwater shots more realistic.
Advanced Underwater Shooting Mode - Colour Correction

Underwater photography or video can show incorrect colours due to the filter effect of the water removing red light from the image. Panasonic have added an underwater shooting mode that colour corrects the image and puts back the red tones to make your shots more realistic.

Latest High Sensitivity MOS Sensor and Folded Optics 4.6x Zoom Lens

The 16.1-megapixel MOS sensor used in the FT5 Supports Full HD video, high-speed burst shooting and a 3D mode. This High-sensitivity sensor delivers excellent picture quality from the compact LEICA DC-VARIO ELMAR 28mm (equivalent) Wide-angle Lens. Also the clever folded optics design enables a 4.6x optical zoom, non-protruding lens with Anti-fog glass, to be contained within the compact body of the camera.

Power O.I.S. for More Precise Image Stabilisation

Power O.I.S. is about twice as effective as our conventional system at reducing low-frequency vibration-caused blur. It is especially useful when using slow shutter effects or shooting night scenes.

Fastest Auto Focus - "Light-speed" AF

Fast focus is a must when you don't want to miss the moment of a lifetime. None come faster in a compact camera than the lightning fast 0.1 seconds of Lumix. Borrowed from the technology used in our Lumix G system camera, the incredibly fast focus speed is due to the double speed readout from the sensor when the shutter button is half pressed.

Panasonic SZ3
Share data just by touching the two devices together.
Built in Wi-Fi with NFC for Easy Set-up and Sharing

Amazing new wireless functionality is now possible with this Lumix model. Features like: Remote Monitor and Shooting, Remote Browsing & Playback and Remote Sharing. Additional NFC (Near Field Communication) capability built in to this model utilises the latest smart communication technology. NFC compatible products can share or be ready to share data just by touching the two devices or bringing them close together.

Panasonic SZ9
Remote operation from smartphone is available.
Remote Monitoring & Control with Smartphone

Use your Smartphone to see the live image through the camera lens and then take the shot. Using the "Peer to Peer" or Wi-Fi function in the camera, the picture can be monitored externally and controlled remotely by a connected smart device. *Controlling device requires "Panasonic Image App” for iOS / Android smartphones.

Panasonic SZ9
Enjoy a wireless slide show on your TV.
Remotely Browse, Playback, Transfer or Print via DLNA and Wi-Fi compatible devices

If you have a compatible DLNA equipped smart TV or handheld device, you can browse and view your pictures directly over your wireless network. This means you no longer need to connect to the TV with the AV cable or even take out the SD card and insert it in the TV. The Wi-Fi function also allows you to transfer and back-up your pictures, and if you have a Wi-Fi printer, you can even print them wirelessly.

Remote Sharing - Social Network Site (SNS) File Upload over Cloud Network

Not only can you enjoy videos and still pictures remotely on your Smartphone*, but you can also upload the content directly to your favourite Social Network sites like YouTube and Facebook. Now it's even easier to share your movies or photos with your friends.

Panasonic TZ40
Latitude and Longitude positioning are stored in the image data for each photograph.
GPS with Photo Mapping

Ever looked at a photograph and wondered exactly where it was taken? Well with GPS tagging on all your photos you need never wonder again. Latitude and Longitude positioning are stored in the image data for each photograph. Based on a database of almost one million landmarks stored in the camera, it even works out whether the photo was taken at a famous landmark. But the best point of GPS tagging, is when you upload a photograph to a mapping website like Google Earth, the photo automatically gets pinned to its exact location.

Quad Indicator - GPS, Altimeter, Barometer & Compass with Log

Not only does the GPS function display and log your exact position, but the FT5 also adopts compass, altimeter and barometer (with indicator for depth underwater) to show and record altitude, barometric pressure and orientation data. The barometric trend log helps you forecast the climate and the altimeter log tells how high you have been.

High Resolution 3.0 Inch (7.5cm) LCD with High Brightness Mode

A high resolution (460,000 pixels) Liquid Crystal Display is offered with a 3.0 inch viewing area that works well in bright light due to the Auto Brightness sensor that automatically increases brightness by up to 40% when in sunny conditions.

Panasonic SZ9
Capture high speed action with a rapid sequence of still pictures.
10 Frames per Second High Speed Burst Shooting

High-speed burst shooting, up to 10 frames per second at full resolution, is possible. This enables you to capture high speed action with a sequence of still pictures that are sharp and defined, even when it is difficult to keep the subject in the centre of the frame. You can review the images after you have captured the action and choose the best composed shot.

Interval Shooting (Time Lapse) with Video Synthesis

With Time Lapse Shooting available, you can record subjects such as flowers coming into bloom or a dramatic sunset over a long period of time. The camera automatically starts taking pictures once the start time, the interval and number of pictures to shoot is set. There is also an option to synthesise all the still pictures together to create a time-lapse video.

Panasonic TZ40
Add creative effects to your Panorama shooting.
Creative Panorama Shooting Mode with Filter Effects

The Ultra-wide shooting panorama mode not only allows you to capture vast landscapes in one complete picture, but in a Panasonic first, this camera also offers "Creative Panorama" mode which allows you to choose from up to 12 filter effects* that can be applied to your shot.

Multiple Scene Setting Auto Shooting Modes

Up to 18 pre-programmed scene modes can be offered (number varies depending on model) giving you the choice of a wide range of shooting scenarios. Just select the one that best describes the scene you are taking, and the camera makes the best settings automatically.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) Shooting Mode

One of the most difficult shooting conditions is when your subject has a strong backlight. Most cameras will underexpose the subject in order to show detail in the background, or over expose the background in order to show detail in the subject. Until recently, it was only possible to create a correctly exposed subject at the same time as a well exposed background, by taking at least 3 separate images with different exposure values and then combining them with photo editing software. But now, this process can be done on-board the camera by using the powerful processing power of the Lumix Venus engine. Intelligent HDR, part of Intelligent Auto mode, takes three shots at different exposure values each time you press the shutter button, and combines them to achieve the best level of equal exposure.

3D Photo Shooting Mode

3D still pictures can look amazing when viewed on the latest 3D televisions. Normally two lenses or two cameras are required to create the left and right eye image that makes up a 3D picture. However, using the clever processing of the new Venus engine and the high-speed MOS sensor, a 3D stereoscopic image can be created with just one lens. Just select "3D Photo" mode and position yourself in front of your subject (the subject must not be moving for the 3D to be effective). Next press the shutter button whilst panning the camera about 10cm to the right. The camera will shoot about 20 shots and out of those shots it will choose two images that are the correct distance apart to create a 3D image when viewed on a 3D TV.

50P FULL HD Video Mode with AVCHD Progressive

The newly developed Venus Engine FHD supports video recording at 50 frames per second in Full HD resolution (1920x1080). This offers the smoothest and most detailed video mode ever for a compact digital camera and is perfect for fast action sports recording.

Stereo Sound Recording

A built-in stereo microphone means high quality Dolby encoded stereo sound can be recorded when using movie mode.

LED Video Light with Torch Mode

The bright LED video light not only adds increased light when shooting in dark conditions but also has a handy torch mode that can be used at any time.

*Number of effects varies according to model.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good camera if you need a waterproof one. 23 Feb 2014
By Delfhill VINE VOICE

I spent a long time reading reviews on the internet about waterproof cameras and found the reviews confusing and contradictory at times. My shortlist selected on specification was the Olympus Tough and this Panasonic Lumix. In the end, reviewers experiences of leaks with the Olympus put me off that model.
My existing waterproof camera was a Pentax Optio W20 which still gives great sevice, but is so slow focusing I've missed many action shots.I also have a Canon SLR 350 EOS.
So how does the Lumix compare? Firstly it is so much quicker to start and autofocus than the Optio and secondly it is just so much easier to use with a screen that can actually be seen even in bright snowy conditions. The quality of pictures is not that much better than the Optio however and despite many more megapixels, doesn't really compare to the Canon. However, if you choose a waterproof camera it is inevitable that the quality of the pics will be compromised. At least I can take reasonably good pics in conditions that would ruin a non waterproof camera and the Lumix is such a compact size it's more likely to be with you when you need it.
Build quality seems excellent, I'm sure it will last for years and the wifi was an unexpected bonus when I found I could download pics onto my tablet. One small point was the "snow" mode seemed to take worse pics of snowy scenes than leaving it on auto.
Overall I'm very pleased, just don't expect SLR quality from a waterproof camera, but unless you are really going to enlarge the pics a lot, the difference will be minor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof camera with remote WiFi control 31 July 2013
Verified Purchase
I'd have given it 5 stars if its timelapse wasn't restricted to 1000 frames and if they could be more frequent than 10 seconds. That's OK for clouds etc but my GoPro will do unlimited frames a second apart. Another annoyance is not being able to start timelapse remotely. Using my iPod Touch or Android tablet I can use WiFi to zoom the lens and take still pictures or movies which is great fun and quite useful. I also like the ability to change the aspect ratio of the shot. The menus and interface are excellent with little need to refer to the manual. I've set the exposure control to -2/3 of a stop because I thought light detail such as clouds were maybe a little washed out. Images are sharp with no colour fringeing visible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect all round compact that does everything. 20 July 2014
Verified Purchase
After a family holiday with the Canon 5d Mk III where it became apparent that i was just a pap documenting the event (there were no pictures of me at all) i decided to take action and that i would have to invest in a compact for the wife to use and something that i could take into situations i didnt want to risk the SLR on. I didnt want to (or see the need to) go for the 2014 models so went through looking at new models from a couple of years ago. I then decided that when spending money on a decent compact, i may as well go for one that is "rugged" and waterproofing is a bonus. The more i looked and thought about it, the reviews took me down to the Olympus TG2 or the Lumix. The FT5 with its wifi control via the app (meaning i can put it in the fish take and take pics without getting my hands wet!) was a great selling point.
After a couple of trips to lego land and some cloudy days as well as bright sunshine i can confirm that the camera has met every expectation i had and hasnt missed a beat. Its no SLR but for a compact its far more capable than i would have given it credit for! Some great shots and best of all, i'm in them :)
