5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent result following serious research, 14 Aug 2008
First of all I have the black version, but as there are no other FS5 review on Amazon I thought I'd add a second one here.

My old Pentax Optio (2mp!!) was packing up, so I tried the Optio S12 - big mistake but thanks to QVC's returns policy not a fatal one.

Then I spent weeks trawling web reviews and found myself torn between the Canon 75 or this FS5.

It doesn't seem like there is much to pick between them.

However, the reviews of the "intelligent-Auto" facility and a quick touchy feely session at the local PC World settled my mind for me. The start up time to first shots is excellent - on a par with the Canon from what I have read - so you shouldn't miss too many shots.

The FS5 is a sleek but solid unit, build quality feels very solid without being too chunky looking or metallic. The basic menu system is relatively easy to follow, although the manual on CDrom is serious insomnia territory.

What really makes this stand out from the crowd imho is the intelligent-Auto engine. I have given it a serious work-out during two weeks in Cornwall (and this summer that meant huge variations in light quality and location). So far only a very very close up has beaten it-everything else has been crystal clear and properly exposed.

So point and shoot works like a dream, the battery life is stunning (even with the flash in use) aand the exposure/colour of the shots are just as they should be.

I only have one little quibble. The zoom is just in front of the shutter release button and can be a little fiddly until you get used to is. We end up resorting to the e-z zoom button which flicks out the maximum 4x with one press and then back to full shot with the next.

This is good value for money and unless you want to shell out for the top end Lumix 10x zoom, I doubt whether you'll beat it (although on most reviews I suspect the Ixus 75 matches it for point and shoot).

4.0 out of 5 stars Lumix 10mp is wonderful!, 19 May 2008
Shutter speed is a fraction slow (compared with the Exilim) - but on the whole the camera performs excellently - shots are clear and the anti shake is just the job when you're taking "quick get the camera out before I miss the moment" shots.

Just a quick beware for colourists like me - the red one ISNT red - its pink!

Apart from that its loverly!
