I have now been using this camera for a while and am most pleased with it. My previous camera was a Panasonic DMC FX100 and this is in all respects an improvement.
Wider Angle still. This is the main reason I bought this. But it also zooms in more too, excellent! I'm not a spy so I don't need more zoom than I've got here.
I've come to love the touch screen. It's a bit bigger too. I bought this FX70 rather than the newer models since I still get an area on the back which I can hold without accidentally activating any features on the touch screen. Very Practical!
Another feature that is really nice is the touch and shoot. Very nice. However there has been a simplification of the features compared to the FX100. Leaving out a number of features that I never used. Fine I'm pleased. Makes it easier to use.
I do a lot of scenery and sunsets etc. The Sunset Setting has been changed for the better. On the FX100, taking a sunset with 'intelligent' was a bit 'washed out', while the 'Sunset' setting was rather like someone had photo-shopped it with no sense of finesse! Here on the FX70 not only do you not need to select the 'Sunset' setting, 'Intelligent Auto' selects it automatically for you, but the setting is a good balance inbetween, neither 'washed out' nor 'hamfisted editing', but very close to what I saw. Excellent!
My ONLY gripe about this camera is that new shape, and the fact that Panasonic don't make nor provide as standard a matching leather case. The one I bought for it only fits my old FX100! I have had to buy a couple of cases to find one that works. I shouldn't have to do that at this price!
The last issue. I don't know if it's the camera or if I'm just expecting too much. Even with a good tripod I haven't been able to get decent shots of the night time sky yet. Using 'Intelligent Auto', 'Night time Scenery' and 'Stars' settings. No joy yet, still fuzzy.
