This oven does not follow the modern trend of smaller/lighter in fact it weighs in at a mighty 21kg (complete with packaging 28kg) its outer dimensions are 530 mm (W) X 508 mm (D) X 344 mm (H) so check that you have room for it before you buy, also as it is a proper combination oven (Microwave, Grill and Convection [fan]) the outside can get hot so needs space around it. The oven dimensions are 350 mm (W) X 360 mm (D) X 250 mm (H). The size means that it is more than adequate and will also heat the prepared meals that come in pouches and have to stand up. A tip if you are replacing a Panasonic microwave keep the glass turntable as some will fit and it is useful to have a spare.
This is an oven that can be used as a main oven as it does everything. It is easy to use but read the comprehensive instruction book first (The instruction book also contains a fair few recipes to get you started) as if you have not had an oven of this type before some things are not obvious for example if grilling the glass turntable has to either be removed or covered with the supplied tray.
Microwave, grill and convection can be used separately or in combination. In fact there are a number of settings that will automatically use combinations for example there is a button for potatoes and if you wish to roast potatoes all you do is put the potatoes on the metal tray, press the potatoes button 3 times and press start. No weighing or calculating. The only disadvantage of this method is that until the process is underway how long it is going to take, initially the display shows roasting potatoes which after a while turns into a countdown timer.
As well as the potato button there are also auto settings for Vegetables, Fish, Pizza, Meat, Crispy Top, Chicken and Bake. It is also very good at defrosting using the "Chaos Defrost" button.
It is possible to programme the oven to so that it can remember up to 3 programmes of your choice
There are also settings that enable you to enter the weight and all of the times etc are calculated.
It can also be used as a conventional grill or oven, setting temperature etc.
The top inside is a catalytic sheet for easy clean, which is just as well as it would be difficult to reach as it is behind the grill element.
The only two things I did not like about this oven was that the inside is black enamel which although easy clean does not allow you to easily see the contents through the glass door, this is not helped by the fact that the interior light is not user replaceable and if it fails I will do without rather than pay a service engineer to come out and replace it.
