the best thing about this phone is the window. it's a quality item. you can clearly read what's on it.
other important details: yes, it has a shared addressbook that is easy to use. it's amazing that this feature is hard to find in DECT phones. what's more is that there is a MASSIVE 200-name addressbook. these days when people have several numbers each (home, work, moby, second moby, mistress etc) this feature is invaluable.
the tones ARE cheesy, but isn't that the thing? you're supposed to be annoyed enough by the ringing to pick up the phone quickly. the tones, incidentally include six ringers, chopin's impromptu in c-sharp minor, pachelbel's canon in d major, handel's "water music", tchaikovsky's "swan lake" (scene finale), paganini's caprice in a minor, "joy to the world" (also by handel), wagner's "ride of the valkyries" and other annoying tunes. also, you can catelogue your contacts so that they have different rings, e.g. if you always want to pick when your mum phones you can assign her with one ringtone, but you can assign a different ringtone to your boss and so will be prepared when that call comes.
the phone DOES has a plasticky look and feel to it, but it's very sleek-looking. also, it FEELS quite light, but not unduly so - it's made of plastic after all. however, it is also comfortable to use and seems robust enough.
i correct my review: you CAN dim the LCD so that it doesn't shine at night when, for example, you are in bed: go into the handset setup menu => display setup => LCD dimming and set it to OFF. the display will go off in the charger. this is counterintuitive (you set LCD dimming OFF? but thanks to the reviewer of another panasonic dect product for this).
sound quality is perfect and can't be faulted by me.
one negative thing: you cannot assign names to each phone, eg "kitchen", "hall", "bedroom" etc. they each have a number which you have to remember. so if you want to intercom your maid in the scullery you have to decide if she is carrying phone no. 2 or 3 or whatever.
would i buy it again? absolutely.

Excellent Phone, 16 Dec 2008

Bought this phone from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and given it a good test. My main criteria was to have a good clear volume and this phone was execptional, it can be increase while you are talking. A good selection of ring tones, displays date and time. The ansermachine is very clear and it tells you the date and time of each message. The night time feature is handy it does away with nuisance calls at night, only lets the numbers that you program in to make contact. So I am very pleased with my purchase.
