The KXTG8023 has 3 handsets and the KXTG8024 has 4 handsets but in all other respects they are identical. This the third set of Panasonic phones we've owned over the last 15 years. All have been excellent for coverage and performance and are still working reliably.
The handset is slim, weighs 126g, and is finished in a business-like matt-black. There is no belt-clip or headphone jack. There is an amber LED on the top which illuminates in the charger and flashes for a call. The main keypad, including the answer keys, illuminates.
The colour LCD and LED are off when the handset is out of the charger; the LCD can be set to be dimmed or off completely when in the charger. You can screen calls during certain hours so if, for example, you have a phone in the bedroom you can stop nuisance calls during the night but allow selected calls, for example, family, through. You can't name handsets,e.g., kitchen, bedroom etc but you can have their numbers, 1,2,3,4 etc displayed.
The call-tones are loud enough and in addition to the normal orchestral tunes there are some more telephone-like rings.
The address book can be organised into categories, which you can name, e.g. "family" etc and you can then assign a LCD backlight colour and ring-tone so if you have CLI the phones will flash and ring appropriately. The address book can be ported from one phone to another but it doesn't send the categories across.
The answer machine is very clear and can be accessed from the handsets and also remotely by using an access code. You can set it to respond after 2 or up to 7 rings or "auto" which is after 7 rings or 2 if a message is recorded. You can also set the amount of time callers have for their messages.
I recommend these phones highly, you do, however, need to have Caller Line Identification on your phone line to get the best out of them.
