There are a few people complaining about a lack of bass on these headphones. It's true, their bass response is a little weak, but the clue is in the name - these are Monitor Headphones, designed not to embellish any part of the frequency range but to allow a producer to balance the sound properly. These are the headphone equivalent of JBL Control One monitors, not some enormous heavy-on-the-woofer hifi speaker.

With that in mind, these are excellent monitors for the price. In fit and sound they're very much like a cheaper version of the industry-standard Beyerdynamic DT series. They're comfortable to wear for long sessions and the midrange response in particular is crystal clear. Construction is solid - I've been carting mine around for nearly two years now and they're still in top nick.

The bottom line is, if you do any kind of audio production these are just what you need, particularly if it involves speech. If what you want is something that kicks bass, you probably want something more consumer-oriented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great looking and sonding retro headphones 7 Sep 2007
Verified Purchase
Not sure why they're called 'monitor headphones' because they're great all-rounders for listening to music, tv etc. I'm not audio-savvy to know how they compare to others but the quality sounds great to me and I can't believe they're this cheap.

Very nice retro look and feel but also very comfortable to wear and easily adjusted. Shortish cable attached to the headset for mp3 player use and extension lead & large jack also included.

Note: the 'blue' version that I purchased are very very light blue, probably more like baby blue.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot better than the price would suggest 20 Oct 2011
By Paul
After a bit of research on the internet and from other's on here, I decided to buy these for my daughter's birthday, as she gets thru those horrible in-ear things at a rate of knots !! Getting them for 30 also helped !

Anyway, as luck or mis-fortune would have it, my trusty old Sennheiser PX-100's decided to call it a day at the same time. So on tearing away these headphones from said daughter who is mightily pleased with them thought I'd try them against some AKG 450's which I'd just ordered.

Well, to be quite honest, these Panasonics blew the AKG's out of the water, which I didn't expect.

Using them "flat" ie, with no equaliser they sound pretty good, but tweak the sound EQ a bit with your iPod',s etc and they really sing. They can be quite boomy in the bass, but a bit of tweaking takes that away and they sound very natural and open with no particular area over-powering ..... quite neutral really.

The AKG's have been returned and tbh, I will be ordering a pair of these after writing this review. Far more musical than "hi-fi" or so-called "studio-monitor" cans. In fact I prefer these also to the Grado SR80i's I recently tried.

Don't get sucked in by paying more means getting a lot better sound - these are truly "musical" cans, and for the money an absolute steal in sonic terms - buy with confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish, Light, Great Sounding 5 Oct 2009
By Sion
Can't go wrong at this price. Not only do they look great but they sound just as good, if not better, than my previous pair of Sennheiser 205s.
Really very light for their size as well, easy to wear for a long period without your ears hurting.
Come with the handy feature of a normal sized cable, but with an extension to make the cord longer. The cable being too long was my major gripe with the Sennheisers.
Excellent pair of headphones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good sound, cool look 30 Dec 2010

This headphones are great, exactly as I expected them to be. The sound is very good, clear and the bass is strong, without any distortion (tested them with hip-hop, R&B and rock). It isolates the exterior sounds and offers great support on the ears; they are so comfortable. It also appeals on the design part, with its leather headband and cool look. Great purchase!

I disagree with the reviewer who says they're bad sound - maybe he/she had bad pair from the factory or something. I listen to a lot of music via these, from hip-hop through to large choral pieces, and they all sound great. The only thing that they can't quite handle is high-pitched opera arias, and for under fourty quid, what do you expect?

I like the look of these, the sound is great, they provide a natural noise-cancellation which I find better than my smart "noise cancelling" headphones. Also, when I wear them at work they send a clear "don't come and disturb me" sign, which I love...
