There are a few people complaining about a lack of bass on these headphones. It's true, their bass response is a little weak, but the clue is in the name - these are Monitor Headphones, designed not to embellish any part of the frequency range but to allow a producer to balance the sound properly. These are the headphone equivalent of JBL Control One monitors, not some enormous heavy-on-the-woofer hifi speaker.

With that in mind, these are excellent monitors for the price. In fit and sound they're very much like a cheaper version of the industry-standard Beyerdynamic DT series. They're comfortable to wear for long sessions and the midrange response in particular is crystal clear. Construction is solid - I've been carting mine around for nearly two years now and they're still in top nick.

The bottom line is, if you do any kind of audio production these are just what you need, particularly if it involves speech. If what you want is something that kicks bass, you probably want something more consumer-oriented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great looking and sonding retro headphones 7 Sep 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase
Not sure why they're called 'monitor headphones' because they're great all-rounders for listening to music, tv etc. I'm not audio-savvy to know how they compare to others but the quality sounds great to me and I can't believe they're this cheap.

Very nice retro look and feel but also very comfortable to wear and easily adjusted. Shortish cable attached to the headset for mp3 player use and extension lead & large jack also included.

Note: the 'blue' version that I purchased are very very light blue, probably more like baby blue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish, Light, Great Sounding 5 Oct 2009
By Sion
Can't go wrong at this price. Not only do they look great but they sound just as good, if not better, than my previous pair of Sennheiser 205s.
Really very light for their size as well, easy to wear for a long period without your ears hurting.
Come with the handy feature of a normal sized cable, but with an extension to make the cord longer. The cable being too long was my major gripe with the Sennheisers.
Excellent pair of headphones.
