I bought this camcorder to upgrade from an older mini tape style one...the first thing I noticed was its weight, or to be exact, lack of it. This was worrying as I thought this may indicate inferior quality, but I was wrong. This is a well put together little piece of kit with a huge array of features including a touch screen, remote control and Leica lens to name but a few. I would suggest that you buy a filter to protect your lens though. Strong and accurate HD recording is the norm now for our family as the face recognition takes away any weaknesses the user may have in the focusing department. To be honest all we want to do is to, lift, point and start but with the end result being fab! This camcorder does that easily.
I suppose there are downsides. If I was being pernicketty(spelt incorrectly). the wind noise filter isn't perfect but if you read the reveiws none of them are. The only other thing is that this model seems to be advertised as a 1080p when infact it is a 1080i according to my instruction book. Will you see the difference? I don't know, but I would recommend this camcorder to anyone with a clear conscience knowing that it will out perform all of their needs.

This is my first digital camcorder having previously used 8mm tape camcorders for many years. The lack of a viewfinder is the main downside although this is pretty normal unless you're prepared to buy very expensive models. Also if you select the fade facility it will both fade in at the beginning of the scene and then fade out at the end so if you simply wanted to fade at either end of the scene you can't do so. It has lots of features and the ability to use both HDD and SD card is useful. Capacity of supplied battery not good so investment in a better one is needed but these are very expensive if you buy Panasonic's own brand. Picture quality good as is sound but wind noise reduction facility needs using even in relatively quite situations.
