The great advantage of this case is that you keep the camera strap around your neck, just flip the side buttons off, let the lens cover flap fall down, take the lens cap off, and your ready to photograph. Its very quick and very secure. I used to own a D-Lux 4 and although the leather case was a work of art, I almost dropped the camera several times getting it out on walks with cold hands. The screw that holds the camera in the case also acts as a tripod mount, so you don't have to take the camera out of the case to use a tripod. My only concern is if the lower press stud that holds the lens cover part in place works loose, this part of the case could fall off when the flap is open. To prevent this, I don't take it off the case, and have been using the case for over a year without any problem. The protection it gives the camera is very reassuring, it is compact and functional, and has added to the pleasure of using this wonderful little camera.

This is the first camera case I've ever bought and, despite the price, for this camera it really made sense. There are cheaper OEM cases but they really don't appear to be up to the job. The only slight downside is having to take the case off to access the SD card, battery or plug in a cable. Other than that, good job.

I am posting my review of this case as I felt fooled by the ones already here. I thought OK, so long as it works well it might be worth the (excessive amounts of) money - but sent it straight back after a quick try.
Basically this is the case for an old fashioned viewfinder style camera - with an LCD screen it just doesn't make sense, as the opening part has to come off both front and back - you end up with most of the case hanging off the camera by a press stud. It just about works if you definitely want to use the neck strap - but with a wrist strap this case just gets in the way. Also I use my camera for work and frankly felt I would look a wally with the dangly bit flapping about. Finally, my main reason for wanting a case is so I can chuck the camera in my bag and not worry about it - but this case has holes in it, so would end up with sandwich crumbs and crisps inside.
The frustrating thing for me is that Panasonic seem to think this is job-done for the LX5 case - whereas for instance Sony do cheap, compact cases for their high end compacts. Unfortunately the LX5 doesn't quite fit and I've ended up with a Tamrac case that's good, but a bit bulkier than the camera needs.
