What a splendid piece of kit! Easy to operate, good reproduction of images on our existing TV, great value for money too! What more could you ask?

I purchased this Panasonic DVD player for my 78 year old mother, who wanted one that was simple to use. The DVD player comes with a decent remote (twin AAA batteries supplied), a composite three phono AV lead and an installation user guide. The rear of the DVD player has SCART, 3 component [Pr/Pb/Y] video, 1 composite video and twin stereo audio phono sockets. There's no HDMI socket (The alternative Panasonic S68 model has an HDMI socket). You have to buy your own SCART or component lead if you wish to use that with your TV, both of which are preferable to the component lead supplied. The lack of hi-def digital HDMI is no problem for us, as a Blu-ray DVD player would be far more desirable than this budget DVD model for larger sized hi-def TVs (24" plus).

The DVD player has USB2 video playback via a USB2 data key, and it can play MP3s and show photographs. It can also play PC DVD+/-R/RW DVDs, SVCDs and music CDs. It can rip music CDs to the USB2 data stick. It plays our Datawrite Titanium DVD-R video disks, whether created by our Panasonic DVD recorder or the PC/Nero. There player has auto-standby, a sleep timer and JPEG, MP3, & DivX support via the USB2 data stick. The remote is easy to use and read, and has all standard functions, plus Zoom, Audio (language), Eject DVD and Subtitles buttons. The multimedia features offered here can't compete with a WiFi enable Blu-ray player, but they are useful additions for casual use. However our player is used pretty exclusively for playing commercial Region 2 DVDs. DVD picture quality is good on our small 22" TV, being similar to FreeView. The DVD tray and player all work promptly enough, with a simple LED display showing what the player is doing, e.g. the words 'Open' or 'Load', or play time elapsed.

I purchased this DVD player for 2 reasons; 1. It had only just come onto the market. 2. It was a Panasonic and therefore a quality brand.
When playing back DVDs the picture quality is very good, but the problem comes when playing back certain shop bought DVDs and all of my DVD -R.
What happens is firstly the sound drops out for a second or so and then as the machine is further onto the disc the sound drops and the picture freezes for a second. It appeared to do this at intervals of every 60 second and sometimes at 90 seconds.
I exchanged my model 3 times and every player did the same thing.
There may have been a faulty batch sent to England, but it maybe a manufacturing fault. I therefore returned the players and I am now in the process of looking for a replacement.

I purchased this after having problems with a Toshiba unit. I spent a little extra and chose the Panasonic DVD-S48.
Once unboxed and set up I thought I would try some of my region 1 dvds as I had noticed there are some multi region units available. Unfortunately this unit is not multi regional out of the box. I searched the internet for a multi region code and discovered the following was sucessful with my unit:

This hack requires the S48 remote plus a universal remote configured for the S48 with a separate 'Pause' button (or another Panasonic DVD remote with a separate 'Pause' button may work).

I used One For All URC 7562, prepared as follows:

1. Select DVD device on remote.

2. Hold magic button until the DVD button blinks twice.

3. Enter device code 0490 (DVD button blinks twice)

Neither the 'Play/Pause' nor 'Frame' buttons on the S48 remote work for this hack.

1. Power on.

2. Open tray.

3. Using the S48 remote press Audio, 1, 9, 8, 2, Subtitle

4. Using the other remote (URC 7562) press Pause.

5. Using the S48 remote press 0.

The DVD front panel should now show the text "on".

If so, the DVD is region-free.

Hope this is of some help.

Another quality product from Panasonic. A slimline Multi Format DVD/CD Player with USB. The picture quality through my standard definition Panasonic tv is amazing. The remote is typical user friendly. At the price this player represents excellent value. Top marks.

Already have a Panasonic Video Recorder/Player and a Panasonic Television, so it had to be a Panasonic DVD Player. Excellent value for money and plugs straight into the TV and away we went.

Well made. Works well. Bought mainly because it has a Scart connection which gives automatic switching between TV and DVD which means it is easy for our son to use. (He has learning difficulties)
