Product Description

DMP-BDT500 – Smart Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player

The DMP-BDT500 is a full-HD 3D Blu-ray Disc Player complete with VIERA Connect, giving you access to the best of the web, including services such as BBC iPlayer, Netflix, and YouTube for easy enjoyment of movies and streaming video. The DMP-BDT500 also features Panasonic's Digital Tube Sound and High Clarity Sound technologies, whilst the Pure Audio on HDMI feature minimises the occurrence of audio jitter during HDMI signal transmissions.

3D and Amazing Picture Quality

The True to Cinema Picture Concept

3D from the heart of Hollywood - Since 1992, Panasonic has maintained a close working relationship with the top Hollywood film studios, establishing Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory on the site of Universal Studios, this state of the art research and development centre began working on the Telecine and encoding process for the development of DVD. It continues to this day but has evolved in to one of the key encoding and authoring houses for Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray. These activities have enabled PHL to accumulate the know-how necessary to faithfully reproduce original movie images on Blu-ray discs and have led to the development of the advanced imaging processors and chip-sets used in our range of DVD and Blu-ray players. The results are clear to see in our award winning models that achieve truly beautiful images with even more realism, depth and texture.

Full HD 3D Blu-ray Playback

Full High Definition resolution by 'Frame Sequential' 3D Blu-ray playback: the amazing picture quality of Blu-ray Disc is due to the increased number of pixels in each frame of the image. Full High Definition requires 1920 x 1080 pixels (that's about 5x more resolution than DVD) and exactly matches the resolution of Full HD TVs. However, 3D movies display twice as many frames as 2D due to the slightly different information contained in the right eye and left eye images. Only Blu-ray 3D discs can store Full HD for the left eye and Full HD for the right eye and deliver them alternately to the screen in rapid sequential frames. This means that none of the stunning resolution and depth of Full HD is lost when watching 3D.

2D to 3D Conversion

Watch 2D videos in 3D, even movies streamed "On Demand" - Of course it's going to take time to build your collection of 3D movies. So Panasonic offer 2D-3D Conversion that enables conversion of regular 2D DVDs and Blu-ray Discs into 3D images with natural depth perception. Watch your DVD collection in 3D for even greater viewing enjoyment. You can also convert content from the on-line VIERA Connect services, including Video-on-Demand, into 3D.

Perfect Audio Clarity

High Grade Audio Parts

High quality sound reproduction, with high-precision audio processing by four independent 192 kHz 32-bit audio DACs reproducing 7.1-channel sound with minimal noise. Highly durable corrosion-resistant gold-plated terminals maintain the high sound quality. The same high-grade capacitors found in top-class audio components are used for the signal and power supply circuits. The result is substantially less distortion, with smooth high frequencies and deep, rich bass. Insulator feet suppress vibration, greatly reducing noise interference and enabling faithful reproduction even of weak signal nuances that might otherwise be lost.

Twin HDMI Ouput

Create an ideal acoustic environment for the audio receiver - Full HD 3D video signals require a high-speed data transmission rate that older AV Receivers are not designed to handle. This can be an issue if you want to take full advantage of the improved surround sound signals from 3D Blu-ray Discs by connecting to a non-3D compatible surround sound AV receiver. Panasonic offer two separate HDMI outputs on our high-end Blu-ray players so that one output can be dedicated to an audio signal. The second output connects directly to the 3D display ensuring Full HD 3D capability. The Twin HDMI function achieves better sound quality and matches the needs of the users who want to utilise their older audio equipment.

Smart TV and Networking

Panasonic VIERA Connect

A whole host of on-line entertainment delivered to your TV - By connecting this device to your Broadband router, you can access a wide range of internet services such as catch-up TV, sports news, weather info, movies-on-demand and games. Viera Connect offers users greater convenience and enjoyment as well. Now, you can enjoy an even wider variety of Internet content with family and friends from the comfort of your living room.

Viera Connect
Viera Connect

Enjoy free family-to-family video calls in your living room - VIERA Connect with Skype lets you enjoy real-time free video calls on a large screen with far away family and friends by displaying their images on the TV. The Blu-ray Disc players also feature a convenient and unique Auto Answering Video Message function. Skype requires the optional Communication Camera TY-CC20.

Smart Phone Remote Control

Convenient operation via a smartphone - Download the Panasonic remote control apps for free and turn your iPhone or compatible Android device into a versatile remote. By installing the Panasonic remote control apps onto your smartphone, you can easily operate your Blu-ray Disc Players and Home Theatre Systems by tapping and swiping the touch display. iPhone Remote Control App must be downloaded from the App Store (iTunes Store). For this function, a wireless LAN environment is required. System Requirements: iPod touch 3rd generation or later, iPhone 3GS or later, iOS version 4.2 or later.

Enjoy Music, Video or Photo contents stored on your PC in another room - The Digital Living Network Alliance was set up by a number of software and hardware manufacturers to enable products to communicate with one another in a home network. DLNA-certified Blu-ray Disc Players and Home Cinema Systems can share or stream content stored on other DLNA-certified products. Share and enjoy digital photos (JPEG), music (MP3, WMA) and videos (AVCHD, WMV) on a Windows 7 PC, for example, by simply connecting to a home network (LAN) either wired or wirelessly. You can even install a special app on your iPhone or iPad and use it to send files to your Blu-ray device. You can access, browse and view compatible media stored on the other DLNA device while in another room, without having to worry about shuffling discs or running long cables.

WiFi Built-In

Easily connect to a wireless home network - A Wi-Fi system is built right into the main unit so you can enjoy VIERA Connect, BD-Live content and downloadable firmware updates without having to connect the Blu-ray Disc Players and Home Theatre Systems with a LAN cable or use a wireless LAN adaptor. A wireless LAN environment is required.

External HDD Playback

Easily enjoy stored content from external disc drives – BDT500 is compatible with external hard disk drives, so you can enjoy music (FLAC, MP3), photos (JPEG, MPO), and camcorder video content (AVCHD, MP4) archived on an external HDD. Connection is via USB and most drives are compatible, even the latest NTFS (New Technology File System) format. (Playback is not possible with some external hard disk drives).

5.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray Brilliance 14 July 2012
    Verified Purchase
Bought this player to upgrade from my Panasonic BDT 80. My system uses a InFocus projector and Mission surround sound with Yamaha receiver/amp.

Better picture quality that was already very good. Even bigger improvement in the sound. Panasonic have made some tweaks and the result is a huge improvement with greater clarity and depth to the sound stage. Bass is tight and treble well controlled.

A really good player at an affordable price and compares to any £500 price bracket players.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow wow wow 11 Jan 2013
    By rick
i have a 310 and a 320 at home already but this blew away both of them hands down on picture and sound! i have consistently bought panasonics to match the TVs and the models i have listed have 2 hdmi outs one i use for direct connection to the tv and the other to my av amp.

since connecting this to my amp and watching blu rays all the lights on the amp (pioneer LX90) light up, which never happened before on previous models. one of which is HD MASTER. everything about this player is immense if you are adding it to a top end home cinema.

definatley worth a buy, you wont be disappointing and you get a proper full size remote (with touch pad and hard buttons) unlike the 320 and the fiddly touch pad.

Yes that is correct my sony S790 has done nothing but give trouble since my purchase last november (2112)so having looked at various players I bought one of these and the picture quality even on std def dvd is stunning, for the first time the upscaler on this unit works perfectly and std def discs do look much, much better than the sony, and that if you believe all the hype was the best player in its category for 2112.
Ok so it costs a little more than the sony but hey don't we get what we pay for? The build quality of this is superb, well done panasonic (actually bought from retailer)
My only criticism is the remote, this can at times be frustrating to use, that swipe pad on this remote is awkward to say the least!
Since this purchase my sony S790 sourced from Sonyshop,West Yorkshire has now returned from the repairers and still it freezes up,Oh Dear.
Sorry for knocking Sony but their after sales service is practically non existent, and they wonder why they keep struggling with their business..

    September 16TH.2113...

I switched it on went thru the dvd menu and chose a a sub menu with ease, now that is good news if you struggle with this players remote.....

The dvd was a network dvd from the series "The Saint:..

4.0 out of 5 stars Is capable of more than you think. 10 Feb 2013

I am not going into what this player can do as I would have to write a few pages and lists to do that. However, I will say it just about meets all my requirements and expectations, really good quality both structural and performance.

If you are looking for a high standard blu ray player with a lot of extra's then you won't be disappointed.

My only criticism is the configuration of the various files that can be played, the list is long and very good but for example you only play mp3 files over a DLNA network or a USB stick not the SD card which can be left in the player, it will play MKV files for example but not over a DLNA network.

One unusual but very effect item is that you can channel the sound out through a separate HDMI to your AV amp and the video direct to your TV giving a tremendous boost in quality to the sound.

If you can see around the file playback then I recommend this product.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! 26 Jun 2012
    By Mac12
Bought this as an upgrade to replace already excellent Panasonic DMP-BDT210.

I'll keep this a simple review:

By far best picture/motion quality I have seen from any player (I have auditioned many in last 2 years from £100-600 models) including DVD up-scaler
    Superb build quality-sturdy and heavy
    Simple to set up
Gorgeous design-clean lines (no annoying shiny cheap plastic)
Whisper quiet (believe me-this has been the most common problem with budget-midrange players with driver noise)
Superb remote-people have been critical of the touch pad remote. Maybe its because I am used to iPhone but I find remote no problem at all. Its quite responsive and intuative
    Excellent wi-fi capabilities

But without doubt........the icing on the cake........is the audio. I'm honestly hearing things I have not heard before. Big, strong and super clear. The seperation is spectacular.

To be honest.......I can't think of anything!

Guaranteed future award winner. Buy with extreme confidence, you will NOT be disappointed. If you are serious about film...buy this player. I didn't expect such an increase in quality from previous model. Thank you Panasonic, you did a great job with this one.
