Manufacturer's Description

 Compact Digital Camera SZ7

Compact Digital Camera SZ7 - Slim Design with 10x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens Featuring Full HD Video Recording

The DMC-SZ7 features powerful 10x optical zoom LEICA DC lens from 25mm ultra wide-angle that fits in the slim, compact body (35mm camera equivalent: 25-250mm). The new lens system makes the unit’s overall length short to fit in the slim body despite its versatile zoom range from ultra wide to telephoto. The 10x optical zoom increases its power to 20x equivalent with the Intelligent Zoom function. This is an extensive zoom function using digital zoom with minimum deterioration of image quality thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology.

AVCHD/MP4 Recording

The DMC-SZ7 is capable of recording full HD 1920 x 1080 videos in AVCHD / MP4 format. The AVCHD format excels in the compatibility with AV equipment like HDTVs or Blu-ray Disc players. The MP4 format has high compatibility with computers. A separate button lets you instantly start recording video without the need of extra settings. The 10x optical zoom and iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode are available in video recording. Videos also come with the high-quality sound system of Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator.

MEGA O.I.S. Anti-blur Technology

The 14.1-megapixel MOS sensor boasts high-speed signal output and high-sensitivity image recording for making many advanced features possible. The excellent S/N ratio of MOS sensor and the Intelligent Noise Reduction system in the Venus Engine makes both photo and video shot at any sensitivity from low to high boast outstanding clearness. The 14.1-megapixel MOS sensor also allows shooting images up to ISO3200 in full resolution.

 MEGA O.I.S. Anti-blur Technology
High Speed, High-resolution Shots

The high-speed digital signal output technology lets the DMC-SZ7 shoot 10 fps in 14-megapixel full resolution with mechanical shutter and 5 fps with continuous AF. It also enables the camera to record full HD smooth video. The frame rate, AF setting and the recording resolution can be easily selected according to the movement of the subject. The DMC-SZ7 boasts approx.0.1 sec Light Speed AF that helps to catch even the most fleeting photo opportunities together with a quick start-up.

Creative Modes

With the HDR (High Dynamic Range) in the iA Mode, several images taken with different exposures are combined into a single properly exposed picture with rich gradation. The Miniature Effect Mode defocuses the surroundings to make it look like a diorama, and the video is played back in 10x fast-forwarding making it more comical to watch. The Panorama Shot Mode makes it possible to shoot horizontal / vertical panoramic images. The Creative Retouch comprehends 6 filters: Toy Effect, Soft Focus, Dynamic Monochrome, Expressive, High Key and Retro.

I have a Canon 350D, and have for convenience photography a Samsung S830. I absolutely love the Samsung, but t is now well passed it's sell by date and a bit bulky. It also eats AA batteries at an alarming rate. The Lumix appealed to me for a lot of reasons, but actually using it has made me very happy indeed. It does everything it says on the tin. The photo's are brilliant and it is probably the easiest to use camera I have ever had, despite it's numerous features. It's a great camera for beginners and dare I say for more serious photographers who just need something more convenient at times. All in all very good value and although it's no DSLR it comes pretty close. Love it. Cons: Only a couple of picky things. 1. You need to buy a memory card, it's internal memory is pathetic. 2. It would have been good to have had a case included. 3. The PC software supplied is, well, redundant really if you have Windows 7 Home Premium.Panasonic DMC-SZ7EB-K Black 10x Super Zoom Compact Camera with 25mm LEICA Lens and Full HD Movie

Small and slim. HD movie recording capability. Fast loading times for taking multiple photos one after another (instead of waiting 1-2 secs).
You can set it to take multiple photos at the push of a button similar to the big boy digital SLRs. You can even take two photos whilst you're filming. All this and it functions as a normal point and shoot camera. Ideal.

Note: Get a nice big SD card though from ebay. I purchased a 32gb one for just £15.

Perfect selection for a point and shoot. Compact size. Good quality pictures. Very good functions. I selected this product with the suggestion of a sales representative in a store selling pure photograph products. He suggested this product since this is a quality product with very reasonable price. He said some other cameras with high prices are not more quality but have additional functions. I think this camera owns more than enough functions. I recommend this camera.

In most regards the Panasonic SZ7 is pretty much my ideal camera - a very compact size, huge 10x 25-250mm equivalent zoom lens, 14mp CMOS sensor (also available as the SZ1 with a cheaper CCD sensor) and great image quality and high ISO capability for the sensor size. While it lacks the manual controls of many higher end cameras, you have control over the usual range of compact camera options, and Panasonics excellent iAuto mode for point and shoot style photography.

Almost my ideal camera, were it not for the very poor viewing angle of the 3" LCD screen - I found that when shooting with the camera held at head height the screen was great - bright, colourful, and with great clarity and sharpness - but as soon as you move the camera away from eye height the screen quickly washes out and proves useless for gauging exposure and makes framing and shooting much more of a chore. The menu does contain a setting for shooting with the camera held in the air (for shooting over the heads of a crowd for example) which does help alleviate the problem, but only for shooting held high, and requiring you to delve into the menu to turn it on and off as needed. Shooting lower level - such as shooting at the eye height of a child, or for a unique low level perspective - was a hassle.
In comparison the screens of my Panasonic GF2 or my Canon IXUS 220 HS were perfectly viewable in full colour at near enough any angle until you are at such an angle that viewing the screen full stop becomes a problem.

Nearly my perfect camera, and for many people it will be perfectly usable and a great combination of size and features, but the issues with the screen were enough for me personally to return my sample.

Bought this for my Mum. Had a quick play with it and set it up for her. Nice and easy to use, takes some good snaps. Only tried during the day and not at night, but i thought the zoom was good, quality of pics was decent, quality of build was good, and a bargain at the price. Excellent little point and shoot or travel camera.

I read all the reviews and decided mainly because of the reputation of the Leica lens. Wise decision, absolutely incredible clarity on photos with bonus of x20 zoom lens which also better than reports. This camera is perfect, so simple to use, feels solid and quality to hold and features just right and easy to use. Highly recommend this camera.
