Manufacturer's Description

Hybrid Super Zoom Camera FZ48 - For Both Photos and Full HD Videos Featuring 25mm Ultra Wide-angle 24x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens

3.0-inch Intelligent LCD

The DMC-FZ48 features a 25mm ultra wide-angle 24x optical zoom F2.8-5.2 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens (35mm camera equivalent: 25-600mm). The powerful 24x optical zoom can be used both in photo and video recording. The 25mm ultra wide-angle lens has about twice the shooting area as a standard 35mm lens. Thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology, the 32x Intelligent Zoom is also available. In addition, the POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) helps you clear, crisp, blur-free zooming shots.

LEICA DC Lens

With the F2.8 LEICA DC lens, Hi-speed CCD and Venus Engine FHD, the DMC-FZ48 achieves the superb image quality. Especially, combined with the bright lens, the Hi-speed CCD realizes high image quality even in higher sensitivity. The F2.8 LEICA DC lens features Nano Surface Coating technology that boasts extremely low reflectance ratio to suppress ghosting. The image delivered through the lens has exceptional optical performance with stunning clarity that passes Leica's stringent standards.

Full HD Recording

The DMC-FZ48 can record full HD 1920 x 1080 videos in AVCHD format, thanks to Hi-speed CCD that features higher transfer processing speed. The DMC-FZ48 also features high quality sound of Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator and a dedicated video button that lets you instantly start recording videos without any having to make any extra settings. The POWER O.I.S. Active Mode comes in handy when shooting while walking or playing with children. The DMC-FZ48 can also record full HD video in MP4 format, optimal for viewing or editing on a computer.

Creative Control

3.0-inch Intelligent LCD

With the DMC-FZ48, you can enjoy full-manual control in both photo and video recording. In the Creative Video Mode, the shutter speed and aperture can be adjusted, just like you do with photographs. The Creative Control allows you to set artistic effect more intuitively. In Miniature Effect Mode, the peripherals are defocused while saturation and contrast is emphasized to look the picture like a diorama. With Photo Style, finer control in contrast, sharpness, saturation and noise reduction is available.

In the iA Mode, advanced detection functions work automatically and simultaneously to optimize your settings, making it easier than ever to take beautiful images. The fast and accurate Sonic Speed AF enables you to focus on moving subjects, such as when you're shooting sports scenes. Photos taken with the 3D Photo Mode can be viewed in 3D via the 3D Image Viewer of Panasonic VIERA TV offering you a whole new exciting experience.

I bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ48 to upgrade from a Canon PowerShot A75 compact digital camera that I have used both personally and in my business for a number of years. I used to use 35mm SLR cameras as a hobby photographer and this is the best replacement that I could find within my budget that I set at a maximum of £300. This will give me the next learning step I need to be creative with my shots and be using up to date photographs for my websites and family home and holiday photographs.
So far the results are looking really good. The camera is light and compact. (May be too compact for someone with large hands / fingers) It seems to have all the features that I need at the moment as it will take me a while to get used to them all. The pictures so far have come out really well using the auto focus even when zooming in to flowers and a bird on our feeder through the kitchen window. I bought a spare battery, Samsonite carry bag, screen protectors and a fast 16Gb card to start me off. It will be great to see how well it performs over the Summer for landscape scenes, close up plant and flower shots as well as on holiday with the family. I'm a keen amateur photographer and I see this as a good way to move to a current format. It's been easy to connect to my window 7 PC and to download the pictures although the connection cable could do with being a bit longer. Overall I'm very pleased with the camera so far.

Needed something bigger than my Panasonic Lumix TZ10 compact, opted for the FZ48 after reading the revues on line, this really is a great camera and a big step up in quality from the TZ10 compact. Great zoom lens and very sharp images ! if you are thinking of stepping up from a compact but don"t fancy a DSLR and all the hassle of swapping lens etc go for the FZ48 you wont be disappointed !

Excellent Camera! To get the full use of it, you have to spend time familiarizing yourself with the many buttons and dials and what they do, There is much advice on the net on how to get the best settings for whatever situation.
I have always used a compact camera and decided I would go for a bridge camera, I would never go back now having tasted this.
After much research I chose this model and although it is a bit bigger that what I am used to, it is worth the extra weight and size.
Highly recommended, would just advice that if you are wanting to use the fantastic video features, that you get a class 10 Sd card.

My wife bought the FZ48 as a replacement for my ageing FZ7. So far I have found it to be so much better than the old model. The controls are easy to use & understand. The zoom range both optical & digital is brilliant. One of my gumbles with the old FZ7 was that the auto focus sometimes struggled to get it right. So far I have found the FZ48 auto focus to work very quickely & well. The other day I managed to snap (hand held) two woodpeckers together on a tree from 30 meters & their eyes were in sharp focus. Something I could not have achieved with the FZ7. The picture quality is very good. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for an super zoom digital compact.

I have had the camera for 2 months now & the picture quality is outstanding. You can make it as easy or as technical as you require, for me it's generally kept simple 'no desire to be an expert', however, the Zoom is great. We have purchased this camera for a Safari later this year, following a week in the Lakes, i have no doubt that this camera will fulfil & probably exceed all expectations ... I didn't want the bulk, but this is the best 'compromise' we could find with 24 x zoom!

I recently purchased the Panasonic DMC FZ48 from Amazon, and have been delighted with this camera. This is the third Panasonic super zoom camera I have owned, (the previous ones are still in use by members of my family), so that really says it all.

Before buying, I looked at all the other super zoom cameras on the market, and although some have a larger zoom or more megapixels etc,I decided on the Panasonic as this was one of the smallest superzoom cameras available, at the time of purchase.

It also offers full HD recording, and is easy to use for people like myself who just want to point and shoot. It comes with a Leica X24 zoom lens, so is an absolute bargain. Highly recommended.

I purchased this camera because it has such a long zoom lens and have not been disapointed
The camera is easy to use and the instructions which I downloaded to my ipad are quite comprehensive.
It is a fairly light unit with a bright screen and the important addition of an electronic viewfinder which is essential in sunshine.
The quality of the photographs so far are impressive for a camera in this price bracket.Although it takes HD video I have not really used this feature very much, but I have tested it and the video seems fine.
Overall I would recommend this camera.

i got this camera as an upgrade from my small digital camera and i love it so far!
i really needed something better than the small camera, that one was ok for doing your average things but let me down in several area's like zoom and video...but i did not want to go on the road of big and expensive camera's so this inbetween "bridge camera" was ideal.
yes you spend a bit more, but i certainly got much more!

the 24X optical zoom is FAB! and even when you zoom in that much, the image is still crisp and clear and the video is in HD quality!!!
it is so good,i am glad i spent the money.

the options the camera has are pretty good as well.i have currently set the camera for intelligent auto and it really is intelligent.
i don't have to worry about the sun or light in the background or not using the flash.
face recognition is also nice.

i have only had this camera for a week and i am still getting used to all the buttons and options but man,i am impressed so far.
as an example to see how good this camera is i wanted to take a photo of the moon, which i could not successfully do with my old one so when i did..WOW!!
great!!

There is however a little niggle, when you use the zoom whilst making a video, you will hear that when you playback the video.
but to me,that is not a problem,i usually record things(video) close by and then the zoom is not an issue.

but i would definately recommend this camera,it is a huge improvement from my little camera and i am confident enough that this panasonic will serve me for quite a few years and bring me loads of enjoyment.
