Stunning HD Images with 1080p Recording

Watch and record movies in full HD

Offering unparalleled picture quality, Panasonic’s new HDC-HS700, HDC-TM700 and HDC-SD700 provide an option of 1080 progressive recording for extremely beautiful images. 1080/50p recording (Full-HD 1920 x 1080, 50 progressive recording) in these high-end models produces richly expressive images, with maximum line resolution and smooth motion.

Full-HD 1920 x 1080p movies that are recorded with the HS700, TM700 or SD700 can be viewed in all their original beauty on the large screen of any VIERA TV with 1080p playback compatibility by simply connecting the camcorder to the VIERA via HDMI input. The highest standard resolution in today’s HD camcorder market – these new additions will enable you to capture footage in spectacular detail.

Recording Format

The 700 series models differ by their recording format only. The hybrid-type HS700 records data onto both its large 240-GB HDD and an SDXC, SDHC, or SD Memory Card. The twin-memory TM700 records onto its 32-GB built-in memory and an SDXC, SDHC, or SD Memory Card. The SD700 offers SDXC, SDHC or SD Memory Card recording only – allowing a slimmer and more compact design. Users can select from the three camcorder types based on their preferred media.

The new triple image sensor offers beautiful images with significantly better colour quality

Advanced 3MOS System

The newly developed, high-sensitivity 3MOS system provides effective motion image pixel count of 9.15 million (3,050,000 pixels x 3). This new triple image sensor separates the light received through the lens into the three primary colours - red, green and blue - and processes each colour independently. As a result, it offers beautiful images with significantly better colour quality, detail and gradation than the 1MOS sensor system. The large-diameter F1.5 lens, newly developed Crystal Engine Pro, and the high-sensitivity sensors have improved the light collection rate, increased sensitivity, and reduced noise by one-half to provide users with bright, low-noise recording even in dim lighting.

The new models can shoot 14.2-megapixel still images (in Still Image mode) as well as to take 13.3-megapixel still images whilst a movie image is being recorded (simultaneous recording). Even with this high pixel count, newly developed technology increases sensitivity and reduces noise by one-half to achieve bright images with minimal noise when shooting under low light conditions. This maximises the 3MOS features of excellent colour reproduction, high resolution, and rich gradation, and lets the user capture vividly coloured images in both bright and darkly lit places. Only Panasonic incorporates 3MOS for consumer HD models.

Semi Professional All the Way

Belying their slim and compact size, Panasonic’s top of the range HS700, TM700 and SD700 semi professional models are equipped with a 12 x optical zoom which includes a multitude of technical features. With a manual focus ring, Electronic Viewfinder (EVF), Hot Shoe and mic terminal – these camcorders are fully equipped to handle your shooting needs.

Includes 5.1-channel sound system that uses five microphones

Hear Me Perfectly with Channel Surround Sound System

A further flagship feature in the 700 series models is the inclusion of a 5.1-channel sound system that uses five microphones. When voices recorded from the front, right, left and back are played on a 5.1-channel home cinema system, viewers are surrounded by clear, detailed sound that makes them feel as if they are right in the middle of the action. A Zoom Mic function links the microphone's action to the camera's action. When zooming in on a bird in the distance, for example, the microphones also zoom in on the bird in link with the lens zooming operation and record the bird's chirping accordingly. The Focus Microphone function, which has been made possible by five highly directional microphones, picks up the sounds from sources in the area in front of the camcorder, regardless of whether the lens is focusing on a near or distant object.

New Wind Noise Canceller

Not one to rest on its laurels, the new Wind Noise Canceller, which has evolved from Panasonic’s previous Wind Cut function, automatically detects and suppresses only wind noise, to maintain natural sounds with lifelike ambience.

Zooming in on the Lens

The newly designed, large-diameter F1.5 lens provides the superb image rendering that is the hallmark of all Leica lenses. The Leica Dicomar Lens on the HS700 and TM700 models is manufactured using measuring instruments and quality assurance systems that have been certified by Leica Camera AG based on the company's quality standards. This lens not only suppresses ghosts and flare, but also minimises the distortion and degradation of contrast and resolution that tend to occur at the lens periphery. This new F1.5 lens has a large 46-mm diameter to offer brighter images than previous lenses. In addition, its 35mm wide-angle capability makes it ideal for many different shooting situations, such as self-portraits and group photos indoors, and landscape shots outdoors.

18x Intelligent Zoom with a 35mm wide-angle lens

The 12x optical zoom lens is further enhanced by Intelligent Resolution Technology in the Crystal Engine Pro image-processing circuit, to produce the new 18x Intelligent Zoom. The new zoom achieves even greater image detail. All of the new 3MOS HD models are also equipped with a 35mm wide-angle lens that is ideal for many different shooting situations, such as self-portraits and group photos indoors, and landscape shots outdoors.

Now it's easy for anyone to take beautiful videos

Intelligent Auto Now Includes POWER O.I.S Assuring Blur Free Images Even up To 18x Intelligent Zoom

The iA (Intelligent Auto) function, which was highly popular on previous models, is included, making it easy for anyone to take beautiful videos. Panasonic’s NEW POWER O.I.S. employs approximately five times the corrective power of conventional systems to effectively suppress blurring from low-frequency vibration, which was previously difficult to achieve. The addition of Active mode, which minimises the blurring and lets users shoot while walking, brings crisp, clear images to virtually all shooting styles, from wide-angle to zoom shots.

Recognition is very useful for capturing beautiful images of a specific person in the frame

New Face Recognition Ensures The Focus is on The Ones You Love

The iA function, which automatically selects the most suitable shooting mode at the press of a button, has further evolved. In addition to the previous five functions, the new iA offers a Face Recognition function. Face Recognition is very useful for capturing beautiful images of a specific person among a group of people in the frame. Face Recognition finds the registered faces of subjects and automatically optimises the focus and exposure for them. It continues to track the subject as the person moves anywhere within the LCD frame, making it ideal for video shooting. A maximum of six faces can be registered. High recognition accuracy can be ensured under various shooting conditions by registering facial images from different angles or with different expressions for each person. Names can also be displayed up to three on the LCD. Smile Shot is another handy function. It automatically records a still image during motion image recording when the camcorder detects a smiling face on the subject. This makes sure that the user won't miss the best smile.

Offering superior image quality – in true 1080p High Definition recording – the HS700, TM700 and SD700 deliver beautifully smooth and detailed images. Thanks to the 3MOS sensor, colours stay beautiful even in underlit scenes. Elegantly finished in stylish black, the HS700, TM700 and SD700 are not only packed with technological features – they look good too. The new models will be available from March 2010.

To Start with i purchased a Panasonic HDC-SD 60. and to be honest it was quite a decent camcorder. At top quality recording i was generally happy with the picture, although whatever i played it back with ( even hdmi lead onto 46 inch samsung 1080p tv ) there was a slight flicker that drove me mad. It would be visable when panning or moving vertically, or even horizontally where there were any straight lines or mesh fence ( for an example ) in the picture. ( i know most people will hardly notice this, but i am just a critical kinda chap ! )

So it was returned, and i decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Panasonic HDC-SD-700.

With 1080p at 50 fps Recording i was hoping i would be a bit close to camcorder nirvana than with the SD60.
Ive used the camcorder for over a week now, on many different kinds of filming, from full auto to complete Manual controll.
Firstly. i cannot emphasize enough the picture quality at 1080p 50fps. IT IS INCREDIBLE . and trust me i dont use that word lightly. INCREDIBLE. from playing back the footage through the camcorder via Mini hdmi lead ( not supplied ) i was absolutely blown away.
What really supprised me was that i could just take the SD card out, pop it into my PS3 and play back the mts files ( yes even full 1080p 50fps ) with virtually identical playback to using the camcorder. ( if im critical theres a bit of judder but its slight )

Fan noise... Nope. ive tried very hard to hear any. and maybe im just getting old but i cant hear it.

Problems... this will be a small paragraph . When using manual control with the screen open, the Camera function button near the control ring can be obscured by the screen.

Summery. The best Picture i have ever seen. Dont hesitate to buy one. Amazon customer service has been brilliant too.

Amazon Verified Purchase
I had waited a long time before upgrading to HD - all the horror stories about the computing power needed to edit, the cost of Bluray-writers, let alone players. I have to be able to edit my movies. but I was sick of listening to noise of the tape transport on my otherwise excellent Sony mini-DV (standard definition) camera, and the new TVs do not flatter its output, especially after editing.
My spec was: High Definition, SD Card recording, AND a proper Viewfinder, also known as EEV (Eye level Electronic Viewfinder). How anyone takes decent videos without one I cannot think. Answer- they don't. and just look at any Professional camera/cameraman. You just cannot see the fold out screens in bright sunlight, and you will not compose decent shots, or hold the camera as steady. Also if you are long sighted you will need your glasses on to see it ! (The EEV has a focus control, you set it up for your own eyes)
Well for the last year, Panasonic's SD-700 has been the only choice, it is that simple, so I bought it, plus two 16Gb SD cards.
Verdict: Picture Quality-fantastic.
Ease of use-Excellent - on standby the EEV pulls out and the unit switches on for immediate use, close it and you are back on standby. Of course you do not have to use the EEV, just unfold the main screen and it switches on, too.
Lens - breathtaking zoom-ability and clarity
Playback on HDTV direct from the camera is trivial, with the right HDMI lead.
Ease of downloading to PC - excellent and very fast, using supplied software "HD-Writer" . This is also a rudimentary editor - it will allow you to cut and trim your clips, apply a few transitions and titles, then save to a composite file. The file can be then written to an ordinary DVD, either in standard definition OR as an "AVCHD Disk", which can be played on most BluRay Players. And, if you are just joining the clips and applying minimal effects, it does all this at blistering speed because all the rendering has already been done in the camera ! A standard DVD can hold around 30-40 minutes of AVCHD video. If you have a BluRay writer, you can write a full BluRay disk (££££)
So this is THE camera and I am delighted to own it.
Right now I am fighting with Corel, to get them to debug their VideoStudio product - they will get there, but the world is still having teething problems with AVCHD, in spite of the fact that it IS the future. It seems that a lot of people just want to upload a clip to YouTube, obviously in low definition, oh dear. Panasonic's HD-Writer is rock solid compared with anything else that I have tried so far. Beware of what some software vendors claim to be able to do.
My PC 2.53GHz Dual Core P8700, 3Gb. You will need 100Gb or so spare disk space, for comfort!

UPDATE - the latest Corel VideoStudio version ProX4 has finally got it sorted - I can recommend it highly.

I bought one of these about a month ago and I am very impressed with the quality of the output, which it has to be said, is stunningly good.
Even at full zoom the image quality is really good and it copes well in poor light.

Yesterday I took some videos and photos of Bluebells and the colour resolution was the best I have seen for this, sometimes difficult, subject matter. (this is not the only subject that I have tested the camera with and it has performed admirably).

The lens will also take filters, if you prefer to add them here rather than through an editing package. eg. Cokin.

The card will play directly in a Panasonic TV with an SD slot, and it seems you can rename the picture files on the computer and still play them back on the TV, so you could store the images on an SD card if you wish. This does not work for videos though. They have a structure on the card that needs copying in its entirety to work.

Creating a high quality interactive disk project from the output is proving more challenging due to software problems, but this is not a problem of the camera itself and should be resolved given time.

100% recommended.
