1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money!!! 31 Aug. 2007
By Maximus TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Update - 2015
Since I wrote the following review eight years ago technology has come a long way, and this item really is a bit of a dinosaur now, whether or not you manage to buy a working version. A couple of months ago I purchased a Garmin satnav which cost me the same as these are now selling for. It includes very good voice recognition and auto pairing with my phone. In short it does everything that this thing can only way better, plus gives me directions, speed camera warnings, live traffic jam updates and a five inch colour screen that displays all my phone contacts if I ask it. Such developments render this item redundant.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

This product seems to offer much, which is why I bought one - in reality it offers very little. And what it does do, it does so poorly as to make it virtually useless.

I liked the idea of owning a slim, neat looking unit that would hug my cars sun visor unobtrusively and could demount easily for security. I also liked the idea of a flip down screen to activate the unit and adjust the angle of view.

However - much like discovering the glittering, enticing toy you longed for at Christmas as a kid is in fact a disappointing sham, so I discovered that the Pama Omega is deeply flawed.

The biggest problem is the sound level. Fully charged and at maximum volume, the sound from the small, tinny little wafer thin speaker in this item is so quiet that I found myself - dangerously - having to lean forward in my driving seat to stick my ear next to the thing so I could hear what the other person was saying. And that was at moderate speed in a quiet executive class car. On a motorway there's no hope at all.

Pama Omega Sun Visor Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit Caller Name Display Phonebook

This is a smart piece of kit.
The little instruction booklet that comes with it is worth a good read as then setting up the Pama Omega is straightforward.
I found that it linked quickly to my Sony Ericcson phone and transferred all my contacts within three or four minutes and I'm not Billy No-Mates.

I've found receiving calls very easy. Making calls isn't too difficult either though so far I've mostly used the 'voice call' function with my phone.

The item attaches to the sun visor clip (supplied) via two strong magnets. It's easy then to leave the visor clip in place and just remove the Omega on leaving the car. A little pouch or case would have been nice to keep it safe and clean in.

It's a slim object that switches on by pulling the hinged flap at the bottom forward. I made a mental note to open this with care so as to help it have a long life.

So if you read the specification and fancy one then I'd say go ahead and buy one. It's worth the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 24 Dec. 2009

The problem for me was when I tried to pair my phone with it. I have a Windows Mobile based HTC phone which caused the unit to crash as soon as it connected to it. I tried it with another phone, an O2 XDa Orbit which also caused the same crash problem. The unit had to be switched off and on again to make it work but as soon as it tried to connect to my phone it locked again. I would like to add that my phone has successfully connected to other Bluetooth hands free units without problem. With this problem I was unable to use the unit so cannot give you an opinion on how it performed as I never got it to work with my phones despite them being listed as compatible.

I reported my problems to Bumper Bargains and this was met by disinterest and no offer of help or solution. I then had to contact them again to arrange to return the device, and again to get the return address, they didn't seem to grasp the basic concepts of customer service really! That said, the unit was returned and a credit issued, but only after asking me to tell them what the fault was again, something that I had already explained in my first e-mail. I guess I will never know whether the unit I had was faulty or wasn't capable of pairing with my type of phones, i.e. Windows Mobile based, if so then that is a large number of phones that it may not work with.

Whilst waiting for the credit etc to go through, I purchased this instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pama Omega Sun Visor Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit 6 Feb. 2009
I bought this product as I was getting fed up with wires in my van. I carefully read all the other reviews and decided to go ahead and get one. After using it for three weeks I have nothing but praise for it. Very easy to set up, easy to reconnect with the phone when you get in and out of the car and sits nicely on the visor. I am amazed at the battery life. I fully charged it when I got it and it still has charge in it now after three weeks (and that was after accidently leaving it on for a weekend!) I like the caller display function and the sound quality is good even when travelling fast. Apparantly the sound quality at the other end is good as well (so my Wife tells me). The only thing that I would have to say against it is that the buttons on the front could be difficult to use if you have "fat fingers" I have accidently pressed the wrong button a couple of times.

But I would definately recommend this product as it is great value for the price you are paying and the ease of use is A1

Excellent piece of kit, easy to set up, easy to use with the flip down screen turning the device on. Magnetic visor clip is secure and makes it a snip to mount to the visor.
