Book Description

3 Sep 1992
The Works collects together over 120 of Pam Ayres's best-known and loved poems - as well as all of her newest compositions. The selection includes all Pam's personal favourites which she has divided into twelve sections covering subjects such as love, motherhood, families, gardening, ecology, travel and animals as well as many more unusual topics like climbing Ayers Rock in Australia, the rigours of keeping sheep and the finer points of the Old Gloucester Sausage. Pam's unique form of humorous verse takes a new look at the joys and tribulations of daily life. Her observations are touching, honest and above all inspired by a sense of the gentle absurdity of ordinary events. The Works is the best of the work which has made Pam Ayres a worldwide celebrity and bestselling poet. This edition of Pam Ayres - The Works has been updated to feature a new jacket and foreword by Pam Ayres.

Pam Ayres always keeps the reader entertained and I always struggle to put her books down.
In reading her books you realise how different an upbringing we all have.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Mum raves about this book 9 Feb 2009
Pam Ayers is an all-time favourite of my Mums - so this book was an ideal Christmas pressie for her. She (my Mum, that is) regularly pours out a bit of a Pam Ayers poem to suit the situation.
Another 'poet' for Pam Ayers fans - Cyril Fletcher - look out for 'the Tale of Sonia Snell'.....

I was disappointed with this - did not live up to expectations - some of the poems are good and amusing but I did not care for the layout and mixture of poems and prose

5.0 out of 5 stars If laughter is the best medicine, everyone should own this book! 19 May 2010
By Juliette Westbrook-Finch author of "The Poetry of Passion (for People with a Pulse) - Published on

I remember watching Pam on Opportunity Knocks when I was 11 and I loved her poems then, and I still do, she has influenced me a lot.

This is the 1st book I've bought of hers and I'm so glad I did, It's so hillarious, when trying to read out a poem to my mum I had to keep stopping as I was doubled up with laughter, "Do you think Bruce Springstein would fancy me" "I wish I'd looked after me teeth" and "Please will you take your children home before I do them in" and "aerobics" are my favourites, they crack me up every time, Buy this book, you'll be glad you did!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Need More!! 28 Jun 2010
By Mary - Published on
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I have recently purchased two of these, and gave them both away, one to my sister and one to my niece, for their birthdays. They LOVE them, and are constantly quoting from them, and now I need to get one for myself so I can keep up. I might as well get two or three, actually...
By the way, if you don't know Pam Ayres, she will make you laugh and cry, all in the same poem, sometimes. And sometimes together! You'll love her right away!
5.0 out of 5 stars Pam Ayres - The Classic Collection 2 April 2013

This is a fantastic book. Pam Ayres writing is authentic and very funny. I love the way she expresses herself and especially the dialect. She has a great sense of humor and I can relate very well to her poetic stories. I truly enjoyed this publication and look forward to purchasing more volumes.

If you only buy 1 Pam Ayres Book get this, it's fabulous!

I love Pam's style, easy to read & relate to and she sees the funny side of life.

Highly recommended, very funny, a fab collection of old favourites that you may remember from when she was on "Opportunity Knocks" many years ago.

Not much more I can add, lots of other reviewers say it all, Pam's poems are great for a laugh, they always cheer me up and I read my favourites very often.

I wish there were more down to earth poets like Pam, so far I've only found one, Juliette Westbrook-Finch, her book is all about love and life, is funny, romantic and written with the same esay flow as Pam. The Poetry of Passion (for People with a Pulse)
