I brought this becuase i am a fan of james franco, i love his films, i think his a deep guy so i expected alot from this book.
I think the best thing about this book is the front cover, yes he writes from both a male and female prespective, yes it displays the complexity of begin a teenager with all the emotions however:
I find the writing style messy and too cut off, i love reading first person but not like this. I felt as a reader because the sentences dont flow i didn't connect with any of the characters or their emotions.
The constant use of same names in each of the short stories is annoying, i generally think theres a lack of imagination behind every story, none of them are grippingly interesting. I felt like to understand the stories you have to read inbetween the lines ( which i couldnt be bothered to do because like i said there wasnt enough to keep my attention).
Im so glad i didnt get the hardback version in this book, well if anything this book displays the shallow attitude of teenagers well, but apart from that the rest is not great. Its a shame because i think if the writing style was sorted and the stories made more interesting then this would have been a really great read.
for those aspiring writers out there who feel like they wont have a chance at getting published, simply read this and it will seriously boost your confidence ( but then again the only reason palo alto got published is because james franco wrote it else i dont think any publisher would have looked at it twice).
