Well I got this album on the strength of the song 'memory', and I must say I'm glad I did.
There is not a single bad song on the album, in fact there are a LOT of fantastic songs, my favourites have to be 'worst to december', 'memory', 'back to california', 'she's the blade' and DEFINATELY 'Counting stars' - what a fantastic song!

The album isn't power punk, its varied, it starts off heavier and becomes more sombre towards the end.

Reminds me of Jimmy Eat World and Zebrahead in places, I'm sure it's similar to other bands, but cant place them atm, but I swear 'back to california' belongs on a Jimmy Eat World album.

Anyway, I can't recommend this album enough, though there are some slightly less then spectacular moments, which sadly means it just misses out on 5/5

ok now this album is not amazing. in fact after the first listening of it, the only good stand out tracks were Memory and Back To California. however after listening to it again and again, you realise you actually like this album. this album can hold its own against alot of bands. as mentioned, the stand out songs include memory, back to california, she's the blade and sign off (a nice way to end the album). this is an album which does deserve a place in your collection, if you give it a chance

Start Static 4 May 2004
Format:Audio CD
The album begins very highly charged with "She's the Blade", and personally found it a great way to start off a new album. It's "catchiness" appeals to keep the listener enthralled throughout the album. The next song that seems to stand out is the current single "memory". The kicking drums to open the song and the simple yet effective guitar riff just picks up the whole pace of the album.
Throughout the 38 minutes of this album, you can see Sugarcult portray their full potiential and their thorough knowledge of music in one album. Whether it be a fast paced "get-up-and-dance" song or an acoustic ballad, like "Sign Off" tones down the pace of the album, and gives it a very strong ending.
I find this album a great collection of songs from this band, much better than "Start Static". I think that Sugarcult have grown up a lot from the catchy "Bouncing Off The Walls" style of pop-punk, and have matured into still writing catchy tunes, yet maintaining the ability to write and compose without being too weak in the writing side of the music.
