Still performing well after one year, 7 May 2007
This review is from: PALM T/X Handheld PDA with Bluetooth (Electronics)
This is my fourth Palm over the years and, after one year now, I can safely say that it is the best by far.
The WiFi capability is reliable and very easy to use, both with my home wireless router and also with commercial services like the BTOpenzone and also with hotel hotspots.
The only down is that the flip cover for the screen (supplied instead of the more usual case) is rubbish. I strongly suggest buying a leather case for it.
The only other items you might want to buy are a cradle and an SD card. Go for a card of at least 1Gbyte and you can then use TCPMP to play videos on the Palm (it's also easy to convert your home DVDs into the right format for viewing while on a flight or the such like). Please note that you cannot make a 4Gbyte card work in this model and the work-arounds supplied on various websites do not work. I had a very frustrating time re-building the operating system from scratch. It was my own stupid fault trying to replace the SD card driver, and ending up with a device that wouldn't boot. If you are considering putting in a 4Gbyte card the only advice that I can give you is - DON'T....
The new input with Graffiti is a great improvement over the previous models in that you can now see your key strokes and, as a result, I now make far fewer data entry mistakes. After one year, the input was becoming a little bit iffy, however putting on a decent screen protector would have stopped the very localised damage to my screen. I have since bought screen protectors, and suggest that they are a worthwhile option to improve the longevity of this device.
I have read bad things in other reviews about the browser, but mine seems to be working fine, although it cannot handle very complex webpages and automatic re-direction. In essense you are getting something very akin to IE5 in terms of capability.
If you want something that is a serious business tool, but can provide some of the nice things in life such as doubling as an MP3 player, then this has to be the right choice.

Palm TX now supports LEAP, PEAP for Wi-Fi!, 23 Jan 2007
This review is from: PALM T/X Handheld PDA with Bluetooth (Electronics)
I have had the Palm TX for quite a while now, and I love it!
The features are great, MP3 player is really good, Documents to Go very impressive, and the lanscape, portrait view is just priceless.
Watchin movies and video clips on it works great, just requires some converting from your DVD to a smaller format. Oh and buy a 1 gb card and good headphones, their so cheap nowadays.
Like some of its other users however I was AT FIRST disappointed that there was no advanced Wi-Fi support such as LEAP and PEAP for business wireless networks which require more advanced authentication methods.
I had to make do with connecting to the wireless network via a VPN client, which did the job, but I would much rather connect without having to use a VPN client (which is not included in the original software btw).
But now! Low and behold, Palm has released an update for the Palm TX which adds those much needed Wi-Fi features.
Just search google for "Palm TX Wi-Fi Enterprise Security Update"
The only downside is that you need to pay for it, but its only about $6 or so, and buying from palm using a UK debit card worked fine.
In the end, its not much extra to pay, and its something that actually makes your Palm TX 10x better.
Hope this info helps, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

an up to date PDA at a reasonable price, 5 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: PALM T/X Handheld PDA with Bluetooth (Electronics)
I bought the Palm TX three months ago, having used several other PDAs since 1998. It was very easy to get started and transfer existing agenda and contacts files. Setting up web browser, bluetooth and e-mail was also quick and pretty painless. What do I like about the machine? + it is easy to use without having to slog through hundreds of pages of manuals + most of the functions and views are easy to customize to suit my needs + lots of peripherals and software available + synchronises well with my PC, including MS Office documents + connectivity: bluetooth and WiFi. As both work well, you never have to be offline again. What do I not like? - VersaMail - the e-mail manager. It synchronises fine with my yahoo mail, but there is some kind of bug causing the application to crash the PDA. I have tinkered with the settings and have now been crash-free for three weeks, but who knows for how long - Alarms: that a machine at this end of the product range only has one alarm is ridiculous! Psion had multiple alarms already in the mid '90s All in all, I'm happy with the machine. It is my constant companion. The functions I use most are the agenda, the contacts, SMS, e-mail, and Ultrasoft Money, a personal finance application I have bought separately,
