An abridged edition is not by Anthony Trollope but Michael Hardwick. It was an attempt to give readers a taste of the six parliamentary novells written by the original author. An impossible task surely is to abridge a five hundred novel down to fifty pages intelligently? Much material was never mentioned, some characters changed and new ones invented. A real Trollopian fan would be outraged. It is hard to recommend a book so carelessly written conveying nothing of the original Victorian times, or the beautiful writing of Trollope. The title too is a complete misnomer. The six novels are "Can You Forgive Her;" "Phineas Finn;" "The Eustace Diamonds;" "Phineas Redux;" "The Prime Minister;" and "The Duke`s Children, are a joy to read."
