4.0 out of 5 stars This Is Not a Gaming Card 16 Oct 2012
I have not bought this product or another version from a different manufacturer, but I must comment on some of the statements made here. This card has the lowest 3D performance of the 500 series but it's total dissipation is only 29 watts which means that it can be passively cooled with a heat-sink. Ideal for the home theater PC where fan noise is an issue. To exploit CUDA parallel processing of high definition video you need to select a media player with a decoder that supports CUDA. The only two commercial media players with CUDA support that I know of are Arcsoft Total Media Theatre and the Core Media Player with the Core AVC decoder. This decoder is also supplied as a plugin that can be used with Windows Media Player and freeware direct show media players like Zoomplayer and Media Player Classic Home Theater. Alternatively, the techies amongst you could use the freeware video and audio decoder LAV Filters in conjunction with one of the freeware direct show media players. I recommend Pot Player (formerly KMPLayer).

I should also point out that the GT520 and GT610 cards have 5th generation Purevideo HD technology (VP5) that provides the highest performance H264 processing at the highest resolutions attainable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good value 29 May 2012

Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this product as I thought it would be a good cheap upgrade from my integrated Intel HD video card.

It did slightly improve my video game performance, but caused a drastic drop in Windows and video playback performance.

If you're looking for a budget card, you're much better off spending an extra £10, and going for the GT440, which is far superior to this card, even though it only has 1 gig of memory.

The key differentiators are that the GT440 has a 128bit interface, and 90+ computational units, whereas this one only has 30 or so.

Amazon as usual provided stellar service, and I was able to swap this product for the GT440 right away.

3.0 out of 5 stars neither good nor bad 22 Jan 2012
I bought this to replace an old msi nvidia 8600gt, the palit gt520 is a very small card which would be good in small cases as far as graphics processing it can play some newer games i bought it for need for speed shift 2 which it does play but not brilliantly all settings have to be quite low or fps go very low and game play is un-playable. it is ok for its money but if you want a card for games save up and dont bother with this it will do me for now but only until i can afford a good card!
