Sarah Irving's Guide to Palestine will support and enrich the visit of any curious and conscientious traveller to the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Palestinian communities in Israel.
As well as a neat encapsulation of both the more distant and recent historical context to the current geography of the Occupied Territories, this book really shines in its warm insight into Palestinian daily life and some excellent food recommendations. Not least Afteem's falafal in Bethlehem, and Yafa Cafe in Jaffa, Tel Aviv - an absolute gem where we feasted on Makloubeh ("Upside down" rice dish) and Taybeh beer.
All we felt was missing was a map of the entire region, not just area by area.
But all in all this book is priceless and you'll be fighting over it with your fellow travellers...
