Review

'Going where others fear to read (or publish).' The Sunday Times I am HUGELY impressed by your superb Palestine guide! Many congratulations - I'll be promoting it far and wide! Dervla Murphy 'Written with verve, clarity and full of stimulating background details, Sarah Irving's book will delight anybody interested in Palestine - whether they are planning a visit or not.' Dervla Murphy - Wanderlust magazine

Product Description

Go on a pilgrimage to the sites of Christ's birth and burial, stroll through Nablus' bustling souk and follow with a relaxing soak and smoke in the city's traditional hammams, or visit cosmopolitan Ramallah and its international arts centre. Bradt's Palestine is for independent travellers who want to see beyond the conflict-focused reporting of the area and ethnic and religious stereotypes. The only guide to Palestine, it offers unparalleled detail on Palestinian culture, cuisine, wildlife, environment, history and politics. The 'Palestinian Territories' of the West Bank and Gaza are featured along with the culturally Palestinian (Israeli Arab) enclaves found within Israel.

Purchased this as a gift for a family member who is travelling to Palestine early next year and it is perfect. Gives great information and where to go and what to see as well as information about local currency, traditions and customs etc.

Thorough and delightful 30 April 2012
By Dot
Format:Paperback
Sarah Irving's Guide to Palestine will support and enrich the visit of any curious and conscientious traveller to the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Palestinian communities in Israel.

As well as a neat encapsulation of both the more distant and recent historical context to the current geography of the Occupied Territories, this book really shines in its warm insight into Palestinian daily life and some excellent food recommendations. Not least Afteem's falafal in Bethlehem, and Yafa Cafe in Jaffa, Tel Aviv - an absolute gem where we feasted on Makloubeh ("Upside down" rice dish) and Taybeh beer.

All we felt was missing was a map of the entire region, not just area by area.

But all in all this book is priceless and you'll be fighting over it with your fellow travellers...
