This is a beautifully shot movie, that should please any Wim Wenders fan. It follows the jaded but ultimately unsatisfying life of a top german photografer, who is sleepless, bored and tormented by some unexplainable "ennui" that detaches him from the world. Almost by chance he gets the inspiration to conduct a photo-shoot with Milla Jovovich in the titular city, and upon arrival in the sicilian city his life starts to change. The oniric quality of the movie becomes now prevalent, as he is slowly drawn into a riddle involving the meaning of life and death, perhaps finding love somewhere in between. A small but hypnotic performance from Dennis Hopper (sadly, in one of his last works), a fine musical score, some striking visuals, all make this a very enjoyable and thought provoking movie from a great director. If you like the genre, you will not be disappointed.
