If you collect fossils or just want to learn more about them this is a great choice. I was impressed by the 650 color photos and the interesting text. I have met Bruce Stinchcomb and always value his opinions and insight on all fossil topics. This book is of interest to collectors, students and advanced collectors too. His other volume: Worlds Oldest Fossils, is also the best.
Dr. Stinchcomb includes common fossils as well as the scientifically unusual, problematic ones, a great way to learn.

On first opening Paleozoic Fossils by Bruce Stinchcomb what drew my attraction was the fact that the illustrations were of specimens you might actually find and have need to identify. They are representative, and typical, but not necessarily perfect museum quality examples. Sometimes he will have more than one view or more than one specimen of a genus or species illustrated. And the book is accessible to most amateur paleontologists with a deep interest but without a degree in the topic. Good for someone a little more advanced than rank beginner, but complete enough a professional might want it on their bookshelf.
