5.0 out of 5 stars A cook book for the rest of us 25 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
Since embracing the paleo diet and lifestyle earlier this year, I've searched high and low for recipes and books that can introduce some variety to my meals. It's easy to fall into the living on salads or stir fries which gets boring.

What a relief, then, to hear about Paleo Comfort Foods. The cook book promises satisfying 'comfort' foods with a good dash of Southern style and it doesn't disappoint. The glossy full page photos showcase the food perfectly and it's very well written and accessible. Don't be put off by the gourmet dishes either, there's very little here that needs more than an hour's work and most is much less. There are recipes that can take much longer for those days you really want to indulge in the kitchen.

From sauces and starters through mains and desserts, there is a great deal of choice and I bookmarked dozens of recipes I want to try right away. The ingredient list is clear and there's nothing obscure required. Most of the ingredients I had sitting in my cupboard. Of course, being a US cook book you may need to google the odd ingredient to find its UK name (yams are sweet potato, cilantro is coriander, etc).

Melissa Hartwig wrote on the US Amazon store "Paleo Comfort Food is full of so many time-honored, culturally-significant dishes you'll soon forget you're reading a Paleo cookbook at all." and I couldn't agree more. This isn't a book filled with poor substitutions for 'real food' but a glorious celebration of homestyle cooking.

Anyone who is thinking about going paleo or removing gluten from your diet should pick up a copy of this book. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mouth-drenchingly tempting! 23 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Just arrived yesterday - and I can't wait to try these amazing recipes!
I am not much of a cook, or (particularly) a cook-book fan; but this book is superb and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
There is a great range of recipes covering all possible meal (and snack) occasions; including Christmas (which I had been a little anxious about coping with previously - having recently decided to 'go primal' in my diet and exercise.) No longer am I anxious - I can't wait to cook and to entertain with these recipes! My only problem now will be which to choose - they all look so good. (On that note - they genuinely do 'look' good too, as the accompanying photos are glossy and tempting).
I checked out many different Primal/ Paleo/ Gluten-free cookbooks before going with this one. I bought two others. Off everything I checked out and bought, this is by far the best. Simple, varied and tempting. Don't worry about potentially U.S. expressed units of measurements (Cups etc) - you get weight and volume given also, so it really is simple.
My advice would be - don't hesitate to buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Service & Product 19 July 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
After purchasing the Primal Blueprint & various associated books, which are great as well as life changing, I was browsing for other paleo cookbooks to add more versatility to my cooking toolbox.

I am very pleased to say that this cookbook does exactly what I wanted it to do and much more. It is well laid out, colourful, informative and has importantly the recipes I wanted, including & I know I shouldn't but I was looking for a recipe for bread, and this book included a recipe for bread... I know what other paleo people are going to say but sometimes I just need a bit of bread for toast and I wanted a paleo alternative.

Anyway this book is great and that is why I have given it 5 stars because in my opinion it is worth it.
