2 July 2009 Pimpernelles
Eugenie de Boncoeur is growing up in Paris, unaware that her guardian has contracted her to marry the sinister spymaster known as 'le Fantome' when she turns sixteen. She finds herself falling for the handsome lawyer, Guy Deschamps, but there is little time for romance; France is descending into chaos as the Revolution takes hold. Soon Eugenie is fleeing for her life. Her brother Armand has become involved in a plot to save the King from the guillotine, the mob is searching for aristocrats, and le Fantome, the pale assassin, is on their trail - desperate for revenge.

Product Description

Review

'An involving and well-researched novel (with) a lot of very convincing period detail ... The story is self-contained and ends satisfyingly, but with enough hooks to make the reader want the second and third parts as soon as possible!'

(Writeaway website, June 2009 )

'Exciting and unpredictable ... you won't be able to put it down. History has never been so fun!'

(Bliss magazine, July 2009 )

The best aspect of this fine work of historical fiction is Eugénie herself. Her gradual coming of age and growing political awareness provide even more depth to what becomes a highly suspenseful survival tale.

(Booklist magazine, Oct 2009 )

5.0 out of 5 stars I just couldn't put it down! Gripping! 2 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is amazing. I have read a lot of books, but I cannot recall one almost as gripping and mysterious as this one. It is definitely my kind of book, though various parts about the Revolution did bore me, as I found it quite confusing. I did love the romantic parts and the action and I cannot get enough of how it all finally unravels. Follow Eugeine De Bonceour and her brother, Armand through the turbulent times of the French Revolution. Patricia Elliott provides us with cliffs to hang on, nails to bite and certainly I was eager to know what would happen to Eugeine next as she progresses in maturity.I reccommend this book to history finatics, romantic book lovers, and anyone who loves books that make them sit on the edge of their seats. A Must Read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab!! 30 July 2009
A Kid's Review

It was a thrilling read, when I started it, I read to about I hundred and finally then it started to get good, it had betrayel, romance ( not much, and itwas extremely clean), murder, and it was set in the french revolution.
Iam really anxoius for the sequel, I wonder if the author has any ARCs? Oh yeah, i got it for my birthday.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read.... 1 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The main character, Eugenie, is certainly not what you expect when you first read the synopsis - and that isn't a bad thing.
If you're a fan of Historical Fiction, then this one should be on your shelf!
