Product Description

  • Africa, beautiful, serene ...... and dangerous.
Lives and fortunes change in the blink of an eye.
Now that she is alone, volunteering at a school in the Central African Republic of Ducana seems like everything schoolteacher Ellie Hathaway needs. Here is the opportunity to get away from the sleepy Cornish village where recent tragedy still haunts her and to help the children's charity her friend has worked so tirelessly to promote.
But dark forces and ambitions are in play long before Ellie's arrival in the dusty town of Limba. Even as she begins to believe she can at last find true happiness, she realises that something at the school is very wrong.
Is this really the place of loving and giving she had first thought it to be, and is headmaster, Gabriel Cole, really their guardian angel?
With so many questions left unanswered Ellie struggles to decide what she must do, but then political chaos descends and suddenly Ellie finds herself more alone than she had ever imagined she could be....

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Characterisation, great story! 22 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I thoroughly enjoyed this book for several reasons. It's a well crafted and entertaining plot. The author has clearly researched her locations well, and this comes across in the atmosphere of both the Cornish and African locations in which the story is set. The style is easy to read, the action is well-paced and the plot is intriguing, leaving me eager to read on. However, what really makes the story stand out for me is the characterisation. The author juggles several major and different characters, keeping them all equally human, real and believable. Definitely worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written 22 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Beautifully writting more in the LitFic style than contemporary, this book examines the motivations and actions of the characters but, more than that, it is a tense, dramatic story of love, betrayal and danger.

Original and interesting, with a wonderful immediacy in the African sections of the story, this one kept me reading into the night. It's a story of loss, temptation, deception and redemption and I loved the ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read! 19 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Bought this book for my wife and this was her verdict on it: A great story. Loved the setting, in both Cornwall and Africa, and how the characters and events are linked as the story unfolds. A good plot with interesting and believable characters. I always enjoy a good mystery, especially with an element of romance thrown in, and couldn't put this book down. Well worth a read.
