This is a beautiful tale of a man whose life is both enchanted and blighted by the miniature painting of a strangely beautiful women.

The vision becomes at once controlling obsession and a liberating force - taking the protagonist to worlds beyond his wildest dreams and showing the world of possibilities that can exist for those prepared to embrace them

This is an inspiring story that really makes you believe in romantic love and the power that it holds.

Above all it is the work of a truly talented story teller

Recommended as a companion/if you like that you'll like this to the treasure of a book Silk by Alessandro Barricio I was ready to be transported into the ethereal wolrd of love at first sight and the impossible demands it can make. I was not disappointed.
Set in 1868, Casimir de Chateauneuf journey's to find the enigmatic girl in the picture. Travelling from Paris to a Sultan's palace in Istanbul there he finds the girl with one blue and one yellow eye.He must then work out how far he can allow this obsession to take him
Although less intense than Barricio's Silk this is nevertheless a beautifully written book weaving an absorbing sense of mystery and enchantment.

This enchanting book, which I read in one sitting , reminded me that you don't have to be a child to believe in fairy tales. The story has everything one needs to imagine there may be some "right" to behaving badly if you are driven by a love stronger than your own understanding. In a sense, it is a tale of an age old theme in which love conquers all, but it is so beautifully woven with believable historical possibilites, it makes one question whether or not it might really have happened. I'd like to think it did. I suspect Madame Croutier ( in future books) will provide more lessons for those of us who cannot quite believe in following our dreams even if they lead us in directions we may not understand or approve of. I love the fact that she clearly does not judge her characters. They are what they are. We are left with much to think about. Madame Croutier is quite a story teller. More please!
